Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.La Liga leaders Barcelona slumped to a shock first loss of the season on Wednesday, suffering a 2-1 defeat at struggling Leganes after conceding twice in two second-half minutes as coach Ernesto Valverde's squad rotation backfired.
Philippe Coutinho gave the champions the lead in the 12th minute with a classy volley and Lionel Messi smacked a shot against the bar as Barca, resting Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez, made a strong start against Leganes, who began the game bottom of the table.
Barca's comfortable hold on the game dramatically fell apart shortly after the interval when Nabil El Zhar headed home a looping cross in the 52nd minute and 20-year-old Oscar Rodriguez turned in a second goal barely sixty seconds later to the joy of the 12,000 fans crammed into the Butarque stadium.
When is it?
Leganes vs Barcelona kicks off at 19:00 BST at Leganes’ Estadio Municipal de Butarque, and Real Madrid’s clash against Sevilla begins at 21:00 BST.
Where can I watch it?
La Liga matches are not broadcast on normal television in the UK, instead they are shown live on online streaming service Eleven Sports. The streaming service is priced at £5.99 a month, or £59.99 for an annual pass.
Leganes 1-1 Barcelona
52 mins: GOAL!
Well, that wasn't in the script! It's slow defending from Barca and Leganes play a long ball over the top to take advantage of that as El Zhar heads in to equalise. 1-1!
Leganes 2-1 Barcelona
53 mins: GOAL!!!!
Wow wow wow wow! Just like that Leganes are ahead! Another long ball over the top and Pique gets caught! He tries to clear the ball but it's straight into the path of Oscar who fires first time into the roof of the net. Pique looked like he lost his footing as he tried to find Sergi Roberto but what a turnaround here! 2-1!
GOAL! Juventus 1-0 Bologna
It's taken just the 11 minutes for Juve to find the net and it's Paulo Dybala with the goal. The Argentine set up the ball nicely for Matuidi to shoot but his effort was saved before Dybala acrobatically turned the ball home. Europe went goal mad for a few minutes there!
Leganes 2-1 Barcelona
58 mins: Looking back at both of those goals, it was Pique who was at fault for both of them. He isn't the quickest and was twice caught too far upfield. Vermaelen as well did not have the pace to cover that Jordi Alba normally does.
Umtiti is the first name in the referee's book as well as he is shown the yellow card.
GOAL! Juventus 2-0 Bologna
Blaise Matuidi, who nearly scored the opener, has bagged Juve's second of the game! Ronaldo lays the ball across to Matuidi, who neatly finishes.
Leganes 2-1 Barcelona
67 mins: Luis Suarez is on now but Leganes are looking dangerous on the break here. There is certainly another goal left in this one, you would think.
Leganes 2-1 Barcelona
70 mins: A couple of changes now for Barcelona as Malcom and Alba come on for Dembele and Vermaelen. Will this bring about some change?
Leganes 2-1 Barcelona
79 mins: Alba and Malcom are linking up nicely down the left and causing Leganes, who are now officially 'parking the bus', a few problems. And now an amazing double save from Cuellar! First beating away Coutinho's close-range curler and then blocking the rebound from Rakitic! Amazing keeping!
