From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Atletico Madrid head to their bogey ground at Leganes, somewhere they haven't won for three years running, as they look to earn a second win of the La Liga season.
Under Mauricio Pellegrino, Leganes are a team who like to defend sturdily and don't afford opponents like Atletico space to break.
Diego Simeone is set to stick with his new-look team which includes former Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier, as well as the potent strike pairing of Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata. Follow it live:
Prediction?
Leganes 0-3 Atletico Madrid. This new-look Atletico side look well-drilled with touches or real quality and they will be too good today.
What time does it start?
The match kicks off at 6pm BST (5pm local time).
Hello and welcome along to our live updates from Leganes vs Atletico Madrid! We'll have full team news and build-up right here...
There's been much talk ahead of the new season about Atletico Madrid. The signing of Joao Felix and some impressive pre-season displays hinted at a new look team, a move away from the functional, defence-based Atletico sides of recent years to something more expansive, more exciting.
But the opening game of the campaign was reassuringly familiar. Diego Simeone's side, as they so often do, won 1-0, at home against Getafe, with a winning goal from Alvaro Morata. There was an impressive debut for Kieran Trippier, too.
Atletico head to Leganes tonight as heavy favourites, looking to make it two from two.
The players are out at Butarque. Kick off is just a couple of minutes away!
We're underway! Leganes will hope for a strong start in this one.
Leganes 0-0 Atletico

Chance! Leganes lose the ball in their own half and Lemar slides a pass into Koke. He sets up Morata, whose first time effort goes just wide of the far post.
Leganes 0-0 Atletico
6 minutes
Atletico, in their all black away strip, have been completely dominant so far. They've had all of the possession and will feel they should be ahead. But Leganes were amongst the most disciplined, defensively sound sides in La Liga last season, so they may prove difficult to break down.
