From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Goalkeeper Ederson has been named in Pep Guardiola’s squad after being caught in the face by a high boot from Sadio Mane during last weekend’s 5-0 win over Liverpool.
City captain Vincent Kompany has not travelled with the squad after picking up a calf injury that kept him out of Saturday’s victory. Guardiola has said the Belgian is “much better” now and is “coming back soon”.

What time does it start?
The game kicks off at 7.45pm on Wednesday 13 September at De Kuip.
Where can I watch it?
The game will be shown live on BT Sport ESPN and BT Sport Showcase for free.
It’s a big game for?
John Stones. The Englishman will be expected to marshal City’s defence in the absence of Kompany and prove his ability to lead from the back. City’s backline has looked unconvincing and shaky at times without the Belgian, as was the case for periods of the game last Saturday, but Stones will want to show that it doesn’t have to be this way.
Player to watch?
Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian has been in impressive form for City so far this season, hitting three league goals from four games. At just 20 years old, Jesus is only just getting started but already requires the talent to carve open defences with his speed, technical ability and surprising strength. He should be in his element on Wednesday night as he bids to prove why he can be City’s No 1 man.

45 mins: Sevilla are forced into their first substitution of the game as the injured Guido Pizarro is replaced Pablo Sarabia.
45+2 mins: Liverpool fly forward again and the ball is worked to Alberto Moreno who fires a shot across Sergio Rico but the goalkeeper is equal to it.
Half Time. Liverpool 2-1 Sevilla
Ben Yedder profited from Dejan Lovren's lapse in defensive ability to poke in the opening goal. Roberto Firmino equalised for the reds and Mohamed Salah put the red in front. Firmino had the opportunity to put the home side 3-1 up from the spot but his penalty hit the post.
Elsewhere in Europe, Manchester City lead 3-0 against Feyenoord. John Stones put City up after two minutes, then Sergio Aguero and Jesus added to the scoreline to give Pep Guardiola's side a comfortable lead at the break.
Carragher's right. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have been superb in the first half. Every time they get forward Liverpool look like working the goalkeeper.
Having watched Mohamed Salah's goal again, Sevilla can feel hard done by. Replays suggest the Liverpool forward did foul Steven N'Zonzi but the referee did not see it that way, much to the protest of the Sevilla players including Ever Benega who was booked for his objections.
46 mins: Play is back underway. Liverpool are now attacking the Kop, let's see if the famous Anfield atmosphere on a European night can carry them through this second half.
48 mins: Alberto Moreno abandons his defensive post and Sevilla work a dangerous cross into the box which is half dealt with. Ben Yedder is beaten to a second low cross by Dejan Lovren who, this time, is alert to the danger.
