From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Even if Manchester City prevail at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night, they are not guaranteed a place in the last 16. Manuel Pellegrini’s men currently sit in third place in Group E, level on points with Roma and CSKA Moscow, but they will have to win their final group game and hope CSKA do not, to progress from the group. City could also advance to the next round of the competition with a score draw, provided the Russian champions lose.

Roma will secure the second qualification spot if they win, but they could also qualify with a goalless draw, if CSKA are beaten by Bayern.

Before drawing 2-2 with Sassuolo Calcio last weekend, Roma had won every Serie A game at the Stadio Olympico this season, by at least two goals. However, they have conceded 13 goals in Europe, more than any of their Group E opponents, due to 7-1 thumping they suffered at home against Bayern Munich in October.

City are looking to reach the latter stages of the Champions League for the second successive season but they are yet to keep a clean sheet in this year’s competition and have managed just one win, against a 10-man Bayern Munich side, two weeks ago. They will also be without two key players for their Group E finale. Sergio Aguero has been ruled out after sustaining a knee injury against Everton at the weekend and Yaya Toure is suspended. Club captain Vincent Kompany is almost certain to miss out with injury.
