Jurgen Klopp reflects on positives as Liverpool ease past Porto to Champions League quarter final

Liverpool will play Premier League leaders Manchester City in an all-English Champions League quarter-final.

Anfield will hold the first leg of the quarter-final tie, which will be played on April 4 with the second leg to be held on April 10.

Jurgen Klopp’s side reached the quarter-final stage after hammering Porto in the Round of 16, with a resounding 5-0 victory at the Estadio do Dragao ahead of a routine goalless draw at Anfield.

From the perspective of both Liverpool and Manchester City that's not what either club will have wanted to see. And from a neutral's point of view, it's a similarly disappointing draw. It would have been great for English football to see these two teams in the later stages of the competition. Alas, it's not to be.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have been handed very favourable draws. I can't see either of those two teams struggling against Roma and Sevilla respectively.

Have to say I agree with him on this. Over two legs I can't see Liverpool beating Manchester City while Real Madrid have the psychological edge over Juventus. The other two quarter-final draws are fairly straightforward and unlikely to throw up any surprises.

Good stat, here: Liverpool and Man City have never met in Europe before, but in domestic fixtures Liverpool have dominated, recording 87 wins to City's 45 with 46 draws. Cause for optimism?

On that note, City have won only one of their last eight meetings with Liverpool in all competitions, losing five. The Reds are the only side to beat Pepe Guardiola's outfit in this season's Premier League.
