From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Chelsea will be looking to reaffirm their Group G dominance when they host Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese side climbed into the second qualification spot, when they beat Maribor 3-1, two weeks ago. But they have a slender two-point advantage over the German side, so if they lose in London, Schalke will only have to overcome Maribor to steal second place.

Chelsea’s 23-match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end when they were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle at the weekend but even if the Blues lose their second successive match, they will still finish at the summit of the Group G.

Sporting Lisbon are unbeaten in their last six games and have won their last four. A win will guarantee Sporting qualification, but a draw should also see them advance.
