15 min: Having passed the 15 minute mark it's clear to see that the Germans have positioned themselves to sit back and absorb the high attacking line adopted by the tourists tonight. They've constantly go seven or eight players behind the ball with Johnson cutting a lone figure up front. City will need to stay sharp and look to work the space in behind to stand any chance of opening up their opponents.
20 min: Traore grabs hold of possession on the edge of the City penalty area and drifts a cutting pass to the opposite side of the box in search of the incoming Johnson. He puts a bit too much on it though allowing Bravo to rush from his line to cut the attack dead.
GOAL! Borussia M'Gladbach 1-0 Manchester City (Raffael, 24 min)
The space opened up perfectly for Stindl to burst down the left flank and into City's final third from where he played the ball along the edge of the visitors' penalty area. With a helping nod-on from Johnson, the ball fell favourably to Raffael who, with a right-footed effort, directed the ball to Bravo's left and into the back of the net.
27 min: Corner for M'Gladbach as the Germans up the pressure. It's pumped in from the left but City can only clear as far as their own final third. After taking an unfortunate deflection off Silva, Strobl lines up to take a swipe from outside the City box but his effort is way off the mark. Encouraging stuff for the home side nonetheless.
30 min: City break with real menace down the right as De Bruyne leads a three-man City attack against a two-man M'Gladbach defence. The Belgian cranks up to pump in the ball but the whistle blows as Aguero desperately attempts to shake off Jantschke but ends up pulling him down in the process. A wasted opportunity there.
34 min: Gundogan with the chance! From the corner spot De Bruyne picks out the lurking German positioned on the edge of the Borussia's box, unmarked and in acres of space. With his first touch he cushions the ball down before letting loose a low-driven shot that fizzes across the deck to Sommer's right-hand side post. The keeper sees it late but manages to get down in times to push away Gundogan's effort. Straight 'outta training that one.
38 min: Stindl nearly doubles it for the home side! The forward weaves his way into the City box from the right where's he confronted by both Stones and Kolarov. The pair both get a touch on the ball but Stindl emerges from their challenges unscathed and still with possession. At a tight acute angle he flashes a shot on goal but the recovering Fernandinho is on hand to stick in a leg to block Stindl's effort. Corner kick.
43 min: City are certainly enjoying a great deal of possession tonight but they're struggling to break down their opponents as Navas is once again forced backwards down on the right flank. City recycle with the ball making its way back to John Stones but this isn't exactly encouraging stuff...
GOAL! Borussia M'Gladbach 1-1 Manchester City (Silva, 45 min)
Finally City get their break through! It was De Bruyne who was slipped through in behind the Borussia defence inside the Germans' own box. From the right he simply squared the ball across the face of Sommer's goal to pick out the incoming Silva. With a simple tap in the Spaniard levels the score to put City right back in this match.
