From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Real Madrid dispatched rivals Atletico Madrid in the derby in a boost ahead of next week's Champions League.

Gareth Bale added some gloss to the scoreline, with Casemiro and Sergio Ramos' penalty also doing the damage.

A weakened Atletico side, without Koke and Diego Costa, equalised through Antoine Griezmann, but it was not enough.

Thomas Partey was also sent off to compound their misery as they dropped down to third in La Liga.

Relive the game as it happened above.

Full-time: Atletico 1-3 Real Madrid

Real Madrid back up to second and probably ending the title race as a result, with five points between themselves and Barcelona, who can stretch it to eight if they win against Athletic Bilbao tomorrow.

Los Blancos are perfectly set up for the Champions League next week, with a trip to Ajax on Wednesday.

Atleti, meanwhile, without Koke and Diego Costa, fought hard, but lacked that cutting edge.
