Follow live updates from the Europa League last 16 draw as West Ham face a tough test, having drawn six-time winners Sevilla. Rangers’ reward for beating Borussia Dortmund in the play-off round is a tie against Serbian side Red Star Belgrade, while Barcelona drew Galatasaray of Turkey.

The Hammers had finished top of their group to qualify for the round of 16 as one of the seeded teams on the club’s return to European football, while Rangers and Barcelona progressed through the play-off round to reach the last 16 last night.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men knocked out Borussia Dortmund after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Ibrox sealed a famous victory on aggregate for the Scottish champions. Barcelona, who dropped out of the Champions League after a third-place finish in their group earlier this season, progressed past Napoli thanks to a 4-2 win in Italy, sealed by a goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Other last-16 ties to be pulled out of the hat included Braga vs Monaco, Porto against Lyon, Atalanta facing Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig drawing Spartak Moscow.

Next stop Barcelona?

It’s possible... Leipzig, Atalanta, Braga, Porto, Real Betis and Sevilla are the other potential opponents.

I’m assuming, also, that Real Betis and Sevilla won’t be able to host the first-leg on the same night - so one of those LaLiga sides could see their tie moved.

Football set to be forced to re-assess its relationship with Russia

Uefa officials told football figures to dissuade politicians from publicly lobbying for the 2022 Champions League final, which has been moved moved from St Petersburg to Paris, The Independent has been told.

Sources in the western European game have privately said they were under the impression that their federations could be blacklisted from hosting future tournaments or marquee fixtures if big plays were made to replace the Russian city in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine.

There was even open speculation, right up until Thursday morning, over whether this was because Uefa did not want to aggravate Russia.

Champions League final moved from St Petersburg to Paris after Russia invades Ukraine

Russia has been stripped of this season’s Champions League final following the country’s invasion of Ukraine with the match now set to be played in Paris.

St Petersburg’s Gazprom Arena had been awarded this season’s final but Russia’s assault on Ukraine, which continued into a second day on Friday, has forced Uefa to take action.

European football’s governing body held an extraordinary meeting on Friday to discuss alternative locations for the May 28 final as the crisis in Ukraine escalated and voted to move the match to the Stade de France. The 80,00-capacity stadium last hosted the Champions League final in 2006.

Uefa confirmed the decision on Friday and added that all Russian and Ukrainian clubs competing in European competitions will play their home matches at neutral venues. Spartak Moscow will be in the last-16 draw for the Europa League today and it means the Russian side will not be allowed to play their second-leg match at home.
