England vs Denmark LIVE: Final score as Southgate gives blunt verdict after Three Lions booed at Euro 2024

Harry Kane gave England the lead before Southgate’s side dropped off with Denmark hitting back to secure a point in Frankfurt

England fans celebrate Harry Kane's opening goal against Denmark in Euro 2024 match

England were far from convincing in a 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday, even if it likely ensured advancing to the round of 16 at the European Championship.

Harry Kane gave England another fast start at Euro 2024, scoring it the 18th minute, but the captain was substituted off in the second half as the team faded. England coach Gareth Southgate removed his forward line in a triple substitution with 25 minutes to play.

Denmark leveled in the 34th when Morten Hjulmand fired in a powerful low shot from long distance, after Kane gave away the ball in defense. The Danes made England look ragged in the second half, attacking the end from where English fans’ anxiety and jeers increased late in the game. England has four points from two games, after edging past Serbia 1-0 in its first match.

That points tally always has been enough to advance in the 24-team Euros format. Still, England can finish in any position from first to third in the Group C standings after playing unbeaten Slovenia next Tuesday.

Slovenia drew 1-1 with Serbia earlier Thursday, four days after getting the same result against Denmark. Serbia and Denmark also play Tuesday evening. Relive all the action and reaction from England v Denmark below:

England 1-0 Denmark

21 mins: After nervously defending their 1-0 lead against Serbia on Sunday, England will hope to add to their tally tonight to make things easier.

It’s been a good start from Gareth Southgate’s men but they can’t sit back just yet. Denmark have more quality in the final third and can punish England if they aren’t switched on.

GOAL! England 1-0 Denmark (Kane, 18’)⚽️

18 mins: England take the lead!

Viktor Kristiansen goes to sleep as the ball trundles across to him allowing Kyle Walker to sprint forward and claim the ball. He carries it into the penalty area then pulls it back.

There’s a couple of ricochets before the ball bounces into the path of Harry Kane who poaches the opening goal with a first time shot!

England 0-0 Denmark

17 mins: Declan Rice steps up the pitch and pressures the ball. He wins it and manages to scoot a pass over to Harry Kane. Kane has a sight at goal and shoots but Joachim Andersen leaps in front of the effort and charges it down.

Important block from the Crystal Palace defender.

England 0-0 Denmark

14 mins: Chance!

The best opportunity of the game comes to England. Phil Foden drifts inside and receives the ball just outside the penalty area. He twists into a gap, opens up a space and looks to curl a left-footed strike into the far top corner.

There’s not enough whip on the shot and Foden’s effort goes wide.

England 0-0 Denmark

13 mins: England are slipping around quite a bit. They’re not happy with the state of the pitch, Kyle Walker previously went over on his left ankle and now Marc Guehi stumbles as he tracks back to deny Rasmus Hojlund from getting in behind.

The turf is getting ripped up very easily, not ideal at all.

England 0-0 Denmark

12 mins: Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka link up on the edge of the box before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg pokes the ball away from the Real Madrid midfielder who lands on the deck.

Hojbjerg arrived on Bellingham’s blind side and made a great tackle.

England 0-0 Denmark

Chief football reporter Miguel Delaney reports from inside the ground:

The atmosphere has been among the best in the tournament I've experienced so far, with that amplified by the closed roof. It's been a really good feel. Fans were freely mixing in the city centre all day. Danish fans were much earlier into their seats, filling their end an hour before kick-off. England's end was packed by the start, though, and both were in incredible voice.

9 mins: Trent Alexander-Arnold spots a run from Bukayo Saka and flicks the ball into the penalty area. Andreas Christensen holds up Saka long enough for the ball to bounce through to Kasper Schmeichel safely but it’s a warning sign for the Danes.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg floats a fine ball out to the right wing where Joakim Maehle brings it under control. He touches the ball to the edge of the box then fouls Kieran Trippier who comes over to close him down.

After England clear the danger zone, Kyle Walker goes down and needs a bit of treatment after slipping on the turf. He seems okay.

England 0-0 Denmark

6 mins: It’s been a skittish start from the Three Lions who have made a few errors with some wayward passes. They’re trying to keep an upbeat tempo and move the ball quickly in an effort to nullify the Danish press.

Denmark come forward through a diagonal pass over to Viktor Kristiansen. He comes inside and passes to Christian Eriksen who then finds Morten Hjulmand.

Hjulmand is encouraged to shoot but Marc Guehi gets close and wins back possession before he can do so.

England 0-0 Denmark

3 mins: Denmark are quick to close down the ball in midfield but some slick, one-touch passes from Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden allow England to get out.

The ball comes across to Bukayo Saka who sends it to Kyle Walker on the overlap. Walker flies down the wing but underhits a low cross into the penalty area and Denmark deal with it.
