Denmark vs Finland LIVE: Christian Eriksen ‘was gone’ before medical intervention, team doctor reveals
Play was suspended after the Danish midfielder collapsed on the pitch at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen
Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 game against Finland in Copenhagen had to be suspended after Danish player Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field of play.
Medical staff were quick to attend to him while his teammates, opposition and coaching staff were visibily stricken by the scenes unfolding at the Parken Stadium.
Teammates formed a shield around the former Tottenham man, while fans inside the stadium were clearly stunned by the incident, with some pictured in tears. Referee Anthony Taylor called a halt to proceedings shortly before half-time with Finnish players retiring to the dressing room. Danish players remained on the field as doctors attended to Eriksen.
Uefa later confirmed that the match had been suspended officially due to “a medical emergency”. They later confirmed that Eriksen had been transferred to hospital and had been “stabilised.” A further communication from the Danish FA indicated Eriksen was awake when he left the stadium.
The European football governing body also confirmed that the game would restart at 7.30pm with Finland running out winners thanks to Joel Pohjanpalo’s second-half goal.

Teemu Pukki nips in front of Kjaer and heads it past the Danish defender before following it towards goal. Kjaer knows he’s beaten and grabs hold of Pukki to stop him breaking in on goal. Anthony Taylor lets play go on and Kjaer escapes punishment.

19 mins: Finland’s goalkeeper is certainly earning his money today. Finland have seemingly gifted Denmark the whole midfield, preferring the defend their own final third. Christian Eriksen is allowed to bring the ball close to the front edge of the box and he decides to have a shy. He hits a swirling, swerving, shot that dips as it reaches the goalkeeper but Hradecky manages to get two hands to the ball and punch it clear of goal.

16 mins: Christian Eriksen gives the ball to Thomas Delaney who whips a lovely ball into the Finnish penalty area. Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg wins the header and powers it towards goal. Hradecky reacts quickly and gets up high to tip the ball over the bar.

14 mins: Teemu Pukki drops deep to take possession of the ball for Finland and he dinks it forward to Jere Uronen. Uronen passes the ball wide for Glen Kamara who is hit with a strong tackle by Andres Christensen. Finland win a free kick but don’t make use of it as Denmark defend the cross into the box.

11 mins: It isn’t going to be long before Denmark take the lead. They are maintaining constant pressure on the Finnish back line. Joakim Maehle runs into the left side of the box with the ball before cutting it back to Thomas Delaney. He floats a cross into the middle where Jonas Wind awaits. The balls just loops over his head and Finland can clear the danger.

7 mins: Denmark have taken the initiative and are asking questions of Finland already. Jonas Wind lashes a low shot in from 20 yards out which Lukas Hradecky dives at to turn wide of the left hand post.

4 mins: Well that didn’t take long. Robin Lod dives into a tackle on Martin Braithwaite and picks up the first yellow card of the game. Denmark work the free kick down the left hand side and win a corner.

There are 3,000 Finland fans that have made the trip to Copenhagen to watch this opening game in Group B. They give the players a big round of applause as they head out onto the pitch for the national anthems.
