Striker Harry Kane marked his 300th Premier League appearance with a brace of goals to hand Tottenham Hotspur an emphatic 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace in their London derby at Selhurst Park on Wednesday.
Defender Matt Doherty and Son Heung-min netted further goals for the visitors as Palace capitulated in the second half having been the better side in the opening period when the teams went to the break at 0-0.
The win moves Tottenham to 33 points from their 18 matches and to within two points of fourth-placed Manchester United, though they have played a game more. Palace are in 12th position with 22 points from 17 games.
After a quiet first half, Kane rose highest at the back post to head in Ivan Perisic’s cross on 48 minutes, and shortly afterwards added a second as he collected a pass from Bryan Gil, took a touch and arrowed his shot into the bottom corner to take his career Premier League goals tally to 198.
The win eases the pressure on Tottenham manager Antonio Conte after his Spurs side had lost four of their previous seven topflight matches, including a demoralising 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday that saw them booed off the pitch by their own supporters.
Both sides now switch focus to FA Cup third round ties as Tottenham host third-tier Portsmouth and Palace welcome Premier League rivals Southampton. Both games will be played on Saturday.

That heavy defeat, accompanied by other results in corresponding games, sees Palace fall a place to 12th in the table, though still five points clear of Leicester in 13th. A first win in three for Tottenham gives their push to the top renewed verve, as Spurs stay fifth but close the gap between themselves and fourth-placed Manchester United to just two points. Their next game, a North London derby against league leaders Arsenal, will be the ultimate test for Conte's side though, and they'll need to take everything good about this second-half performance if they're to topple their biggest rivals.

On his 300th Premier League start, Harry Kane showed his world class finishing ability once more with two well-taken goals right at the start of the second half. The England captain had four shots in total, scoring with both of his on-target efforts, and also created three chances for his teammates. He contested 13 duels in total, winning an impressive five of six in the air, and completed eight touches in the box and final third entries apiece, completing 16 passes in this area of the pitch. What a result for Tottenham! After a first-half in which they were distinctly second-best, Spurs looked set to continue their spell of poor post-World Cup form, but Conte's lilywhites came out firing in the second. Harry Kane, as ever, popped up to lash home two goals with the second period just eight minutes old, and before long, Doherty and Son had joined the party, capitalising on defensive errors from Palace. It's Spurs' first victory since the restart, and they consign Palace to a second defeat in three games with a clinical performance.
