Harry Kane headed a last-gasp equaliser to earn Tottenham Hotspur a barely-deserved 2-2 draw in a feisty London derby at Chelsea.

Reece James seemed to have sealed the points for the hosts with a 77th-minute strike but Kane rose to head home a corner in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel and his Spurs counterpart Antonio Conte, a former Chelsea boss, were both shown red cards after the final whistle as tempers boiled over on a sweltering afternoon in west London.

Centre back Kalidou Koulibaly marked his home debut in style by volleying Chelsea in front from a corner in the 19th minute and the hosts totally dominated the opening period. Chelsea remained in the ascendancy in the second half and should have had the points wrapped up but were rocked when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg equalised in the 68th minute.

Follow all the reaction as Chelsea draw with Spurs in the first ‘top-six derby’ of the season:

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

54 mins: Cucurella gets on the overlap and forces Romero into a sliding tackle to win a corner. It’s played short to Sterling whose pass into the middle is knocked away.

The ball comes back out to Mount who skews a crossing effort and fires the ball at Hugo Lloris. The goalkeeper is unsure whether the ball is dipping under the crossbar and has to flap it behind to avoid any embarrassment.

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

51 mins: Another free kick for Chelsea sees Reece James deliver another cross that is easily nodded clear by Spurs. The 22-year-old just hasn’t quite got his delivery right today especially for someone with such high standards.

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

48 mins: Save! Harry Kane has enough time on the ball to control it and flick a pass into the box that Son Heung-min gets on the end of. He’s quickly closed down but manages to prod a shot off that Edouard Mendy gets out with his left leg.

That’s better from Spurs.

Second half: Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

Kick off: Tottenham restart the match. Neither manager has made a change at half-time which is surprising especially for Spurs who so often looked second best in the first 45 minutes.

They need more control in the middle of the pitch to more easily transition from defence to attack.

How will this game play out? Will Chelsea extend their lead and cruise to yet another victory against Tottenham or can Spurs get themselves back into the match and maybe push for a win?

Kalidou Koulibaly is the first player to score his first Premier League goal for Chelsea in a game against Spurs since Michael Essien in March 2006.

Half-time: Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

45+3 mins: Chelsea head into the break with a fully deserved lead. Tottenham have been very timid. They’ve focused on keeping Chelsea at bay instead of taking the attack to them.

Somehow they’re still in the game but Antonio Conte will need to change things for the second 45 minutes.

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

45 mins: Three minutes of added time to play at the end of the first half. Spurs are having a period on the ball but they’re not going anywhere with it.

The defenders push up to the halfway line but when Chelsea come out to meet them Ben Davies knocks the ball back to Hugo Lloris.

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

42 mins: Tottenham are thinking about half-time now. They need a reset and have to come out on the front foot in the second half. Chelsea have been allowed to dictate the state of this game.
