Brighton host Tottenham in the Premier League as each club looks to propel themselves up the table. The Seagulls came into the weekend sitting ninth in the league, just a point behind their opponents.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side are looking to bounce back from a 4-2 defeat to Chelsea last time out though the scoreline doesn’t reflect the performance from a fairly equal game. Brighton are aiming to secure their first win in the top-flight since August having recorded draws with Arsenal, Ipswich and Nottingham Forest before the Chelsea defeat.

Spurs, meanwhile, come into the match on the back of a brilliant display against Manchester United which resulted in a 3-0 victory for Ange Postecoglou’s men at Old Trafford. They have won their last five games across all competitions and can climb closer to the top four with a victory this afternoon.

GOAL! Brighton 0-1 TOTTENHAM (Brennan Johnson, 24 minutes)

That one will count! He just can’t stop scoring!

Six games in a row with a goal for Brennan Johnson! Brighton give the ball away in midfield and Dominic Solanke can survey an inviting defensive shape, plenty of space through which to thread a pass. The weight is perfect for Johnson to scuttle on to, and there’s little doubt that the in-form Welshman is going to beat Bart Verbruggen.

OFFSIDE! Brighton 0-0 Tottenham, 22 minutes

Tottenham think they’ve opened the scoring but Pedro Porro is offside in the build-up! A double ricochet from Timo Werner’s header results in the ball creeping across the line via James Maddison’s body, but Porro had just gone too soon earlier in the movement.

Brighton 0-0 Tottenham, 20 minutes

A very useful foot from Lewis Dunk, using all of lank to nip in ahead of Dominic Solanke with only him between the Tottenham striker and Bart Vebruggen.

Timo Werner waltzes past Joel Veltman, but can’t pick out a colleague with his cut-back.

Yankuba Minteh is pretty nippy, too, though can’t manouevre around the rather larger Van de Ven, using his bulk wisely to prevent an out-and-out footrace. The game is just settling a little after the high-tempo opening.

Brighton 0-0 Tottenham, 14 minutes

Perhaps wisely, Georginio Rutter throws Micky van de Ven off the rails before the flying Dutchman can chug out of the station. He’s whistled for a foul but we saw last week what the defender can do if he builds up a head of steam.

Brighton 0-0 Tottenham, 11 minutes

Tottenham’s defensive line is high, pushing up beyond halfway - and Kaoru Mitoma should, therefore, not be standing offside as Georgino Rutter attempts to free him with a forward pass.

Brighton 0-0 Tottenham, 10 minutes

That might not have been the worst pause for Brighton, however damaging losing a key defender may prove. Tottenham are slightly scratchy after the delay, with Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur nearly contriving to gift a chance the hosts’ way.

Brighton 0-0 Tottenham, 9 minutes

It’s not been a good day for Premier League central defenders. Aston Villa lost Ezri Konsa earlier, Manchester United Harry Maguire, and now Adam Webster is being led off inside nine minutes. A grimace as he crosses the threshold - Igor is his replacement.

Brighton 0-0 Tottenham, 7 minutes

A worry now for Adam Webster, hand immediately grasping down to a twinging hamstring. This doesn’t look particularly promising for the centre-half.
