Liverpool moved to within three points of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League with a win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
Goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah secured the three points at the Amex and closed the gap at the summit before Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Crystal Palace on Monday evening.
January arrival Diaz opened the scoring with a brave header before a dangerous challenge from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez that he avoided sanction for. Top scorer Salah then wrapped up the victory from the spot in the second-half after Yves Bissouma handled in the box.

43 mins: Chance! Alexis Mac Allister swings a Brighton corner into the box but Jordan Henderson is free to nod it away. Tariq Lamptey gets to the ball and plays it out to Leandro Trossard on the right side. Trossard’s cross into the area is won by Andy Robertson who punts it forward and plays Mo Salah free on the counter-attack.
Salah drives into the left side of the box, shrugs off Yves Bissouma and decides not to pass to Luis Diaz. He tries to guide around Robert Sanchez but the goalkeeper blocks the gap at the near post and keeps out the shot!

40 mins: Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold stand over a free kick on the left side of Brighton’s final third. Alexander-Arnold whips it into the area where Marc Cucurella attempts to clear it. Mo Salah keeps the attack alive and nods it back across to Alexander-Arnold who scuffs his effort well wide of the back post.

37 mins: Yves Bissouma brings the ball through midfield and gets into a tangle with Sadio Mane. Both players hit the deck and the referee awards the free kick to Liverpool much to the annoyance of the the home fans - and Graham Potter.
Diaz swtiches the ball out to Alexander-Arnold who plays Henderson into the box. He chips it into the middle but the pass goes over Diaz and gets headed away by Veltman.

34 mins: Chance! The ball comes up the pitch where Sadio Mane and Joel Veltman both try to bring it under control. Veltman wins the initial ball but Mane nicks it off him, flicking it over the defender’s head and carrying it into the box. He’s got the options of Salah to his right and Diaz to his left but Mane goes it alone and hits a low, soft effort straight at the Brighton goalkeeper.

31 mins: The goal has settled Liverpool down. They’re taking control of the game now, holding onto possession and using the wide areas to move the ball up the pitch.
Brighton defend a couple of corners with the second finding Sadio Mane in the box but his headed effort is easily kept out by Robert Sanchez.

28 mins: Alexander-Arnold picks out Diaz with threaded pass inside and he slips the ball into the box for Salah. Salah has his back to goal and gets closed down by two defenders so offloads the ball to Henderson who drives it into the six-yard box and wins a corner as Dunk heads it behind.

25 mins: Robert Sanchez is a lucky man. They’ve shown a few replays of his tackle on Luis Diaz and it’s bewildering how he didn’t pick up a yellow card at the very least.
Tariq Lamptey carries the ball down the right and looks to come inside only to get fouled by Luis Diaz.

22 mins: Fabinho is taken out in a dangerous area, over to the right side of Brighton’s final third. Trent Alexander-Arnold whips the free kick into the six-yard box but Solly March is first to the ball and heads it clear for the home side.
GOAL! Brighton 0 - 1 Liverpool (Diaz, 19’)⚽️
19 mins: Liverpool take the lead but Luis Diaz takes a bad knock in the process. Joel Matip brings the ball into midfield and slots a pass over the top. It bounces into the box as Luis Diaz makes his run in behind. Robert Sanchez comes flying out of goal but he can’t beat Diaz to the ball. Diaz nods it past him into the open net and then gets cleaned out by the goalkeeper’s high foot!
VAR take a look at the challenge from Sanchez but no punishment is given. Liverpool won’t care. Luis Diaz is back on his feet and has the opening goal!
Brighton 0 - 0 Liverpool
18 mins: Nearly. Jordan Henderson pushes forward on the right side and darts into the box as Fabinho flicks the ball over the top. Henderson brings it under control and slides a pass into the middle of the box where neither Mo Salah nor Luis Diaz can turn it towards goal.
