Follow live coverage as Brentford face Newcastle United today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

MASSIVE CHANCE! It's almost 3-2 to Newcastle! This time, it's Barnes who looks to turn provider as he drives towards the byline and hangs up a teasing cross at the back post. Murphy, gets on the end of the delivery but can only direct his header onto the roof of the net.

Having won each of his last five against the Bees, he’s looking to win six league games in a row against an opponent for the first time in his entire managerial career.

CLOSE! It's Newcastle's turn to come forward. The visitors break down the right-hand side through Livramento, who finds Isak in a wide area unmarked. The Sweden international delivers a cross into the box which Van den Berg clears, but Guimaraes gratefully runs onto it. The Brazilian has an effort on goal but his shot flashes just past the post with Flekken beaten.

OVER! Brentford break forward with pace once again. This time, Schar needlessly gives the ball away to Carvalho on the halfway line before the midfielder feeds Thiago down the left-hand side. The striker tees up Yamoliuk on the inside but his effort sails well over the crossbar.

WHAT A CHANCE FOR NEWCASTLE! Isak is far too strong for Collins, as the Swede barges the Brentford defender over on the touchline. The striker is clean through on goal and rounds Flekken, but then takes far too long to slot in and Flekken scoops the ball away. That should have been 2-1!
