Was this the attitude Cristiano Ronaldo demanded? Whatever about refusing to accept criticism, Manchester United’s new generation refused to accept anything other than victory. It was certainly the response, and the result, Ralf Rangnick and his team needed. On a night when they were often second best to Brentford, and mere days after Ronaldo gave such a pointed interview about the attitude of younger players, three of the club’s youth graduates scored to secure a crucial 3-1 win in the race for fourth. The table looks that bit better for United. The mood is that bit improved.

That’s the spirit of youth, that feels all the more special when another new academy player scores. The 19-year-old Anthony Elanga was no mere detail in adding to United’s long list of historic teenage goalscorers, though. He offered the most important moment of the game at Brentford Community Stadium, brilliantly improvising on a hopeful cross to give United a lead they scarcely deserved.

Neither he or the team looked back. They were instead racing away, especially for the two moments that clinched it. Mason Greenwood slid in the second on the break before substitute Marcus Rashford thrashed in to score his first goal since October. The angry nature of the finish made it seem like Rashford was proving a point.

Brentford vs Man Utd

Starting with a 5-3 loss at Leicester in September 2014, Manchester United have lost seven of their last 22 Premier League away games against promoted sides.

The Red Devils had only lost seven of their first 66 such games in the competition with 38 wins and 21 draws.

Leicester 0-0 Tottenham

Great chance for Harry Kane to open the scoring for Tottenham after he receives the ball in the box. He twists and turns his way into space and squeezes off a shot that beats Kasper Schmeichel but gets cleared off the line!

10 minutes gone at the King Power Stadium. Both team have had decent chances but the game remains goalless so far.

Manchester United are one of two clubs, along with Leicester City, to have scored in all of their Premier League away games this season.

However, United have dropped points in five of their last seven away league fixtures. This directly followed their English league record run of 29 successive away matches unbeaten.

Brentford vs Man Utd: Manchester United reject Newcastle loan bid for Jesse Lingard

Newcastle United have seen their initial bid to sign Jesse Lingard on loan from Manchester United rejected.

Lingard, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, is one of several players at Old Trafford eager to find regular first-team football elsewhere.

Newcastle are keen to make Lingard the third signing since the Saudi Arabia-led takeover, following the arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

Brentford vs Man Utd: Thomas Frank on creating magic moments

Thomas Frank says that due to the quality of the Manchester United players, the Red Devils are never out of a game because they can create magic from nothing.

The Brentford manager is aiming to create a bit of magic himself by beating United tonight but he knows it won’t be an easy proposition. He said:

They are one of the biggest clubs in the world with unbelievable players. On their day they can produce magic out of nothing. Against Aston Villa, [Bruno] Fernandes created two chances out of nothing.

“When [Cristiano] Ronaldo has played, he has produced chances and goals. I don’t know if there’s a good time to play them. I am aware that they are not performing as high as the top three but, on their day, they have all the quality to do so.

“I expect us to come out with a performance. I will do my best to have a team that comes out aggressive and plays with intensity. Our fans need to be bang on it; I hope we can create another magic moment in Brentford’s history. That’s our aim.”

Brentford vs Man Utd

Manchester United’s solitary defeat in 11 matches in all competitions since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked came at home to Wolves in the Premier League on 3rd January.

The red Devils are just one short of becoming the first club to record 300 Premier League away victories.
