'Don't write off Sonny' - Postecoglou backs Spurs' captain

Bournemouth leapfrogged Tottenham in the Premier League table as the Cherries claimed another home scalp and Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered their sixth defeat of the season.

Dean Huijsen’s free header from an early corner gave Bournemouth the lead and Andoni Iraola’s team were more than deserving of their victory, which adds to wins over Arsenal and Manchester City this season. The hosts wasted several chances to add to the scoreline.

By contrast, Spurs barely troubled Bournemouth’s goal and defeat means Postecoglou’s side are winless in the three games since beating Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad, as their inconsistent campaign continued.

Tottenham could have gone 5th with a win but instead it is Bournemouth who climb to 9th in the table, ahead of Spurs in 10th. Spurs visit high-flying Chelsea on Sunday while Bournemouth go to Ipswich.

GOAL! Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham (HUIJSEN 17’)

TOTTENHAM CONCEDE ANOTHER GOAL FROM A SET-PIECE! And it’s the 19-year-old Dean Huijsen with the opening goal!

A brilliant moment for the centre-back, who becomes the youngest player to score for Bournemouth in the Premier League!

But terrible defending from Tottenham! Huijsen was left all on his own at the back post to head past Forster.

Even before then, Tottenham were so sloppy in failing to clear. Bournemouth have punished them.

Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham

14 mins: Nice move from Tottenham, playing from back to front. This time Huijsen reads Johnson’s cross to make the interception.

At the other end, Forster’s sliced clearance gives Bournemouth the chance to build another attack... it breaks to Evanilson, as Dragusin fails to clear at the front post!

Forster is forced into the save!

Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham

11 mins: Another mistake from Bournemouth, this time from Zabarnyi, lets Solanke through again. Bournemouth recover just in time to concede a corner, which they clear.

There’s lots of space tonight. Gray has to time his tackle to perfection to deny Kluivert.

9 mins: Chance! A mistake from the young Huijsen and Solanke is suddenly in! Can he take the chance against his former side? No! He blazes over, as Huijsen dives in at the last.

6 mins: Nice link-up play between Maddison and Kulusevski, after a lovely turn in midfield from the England international.

Kulusevski is back on the wing today and shoots straight at Kepa on his right foot.
