Manchester City lost top spot in the Premier League table after a 2-1 defeat at AFC Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been beset by injuries of late but they fell behind to a fine sweeping move early on, with Antoine Semenyo scoring to put the Cherries ahead. Evanilson then slid in a second on the counter-attack after the break to put the home team clear - and just a short spell on from them beating Arsenal too - and despite a late consolation from Josko Gvardiol, Bournemouth hung on to win.

Combined with Liverpool beating Brighton, it meant City fell into second place and missed the chance to open a bigger gap to Arsenal, who had lost earlier in the day at Newcastle. Follow all the Premier League reaction with our live blog below:

Play is stopped for Haaland, who has stayed down after being upended by Cook’s sliding challenge. The referee initially allows play to continue and VAR does not believe they have a cause to intervene as the midfielder won the ball, but after a while Bournemouth put it out of play for the striker to receive treatment.

Manchester City have had even more possession following the restart, with the visitors closing in on 80 per cent of the ball. Bournemouth seem willing at this stage to let them have it at a comfortable distance, defending deep, before breaking on the counter.

Haaland looks to get on the end of Silva’s chipped cross at the far post, but Senesi times his leap to perfection and gets a touch to the ball, putting it off the Manchester City striker and behind for a goal-kick.

Despite injuries to a number of key players - including Rodri and Jack Grealish - Guardiola still has a number of experienced options to call upon from the bench to change the match, with De Bruyne chief among them. His connection with Haaland could put the Bournemouth back line under increased pressure in the second half, while the tricky Savinho coil take the spot of Nunes on the left. Iraola will be desperate for his side to see out a first Premier League win over Manchester City, and could call upon Billing or Adams to replace the booked Christie in midfield, but the Bournemouth coach will know one goal probably won’t be enough, with Brooks and Unal ready to add fresh legs into the attack and stretch the pitch late on in search of some insurance.

Bournemouth take a fully deserved 1-0 lead into the half-time interval at the Vitality Stadium, leading Manchester City thanks to Semenyo’s well-taken goal after just nine minutes. Iraola’s side were clearly up for the challenge and started with real intensity, looking to pressure every Manchester City pass and turn defence into attack quickly through Kerkez and Semenyo. Their bravery was rewarded within the opening quarter-hour, when Semenyo latched onto Kerkez’s low delivery and swivelled to tuck a far-post finish past Ederson. Despite dominating the possession statistics, Manchester City were not able to get themselves back in the game, failing to test Travers at all in the opening period, with Haaland’s shot dragged wide after 40 minutes the closest the visitors came to restoring parity. An xG of 0.63 for the Cherries leads the way, with Guardiola’s team producing 0.47, after five off-target efforts.
