Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

The Hatters make three changes themselves, as Issa Kabore and Ross Barkley come into the wide and central positions of a midfield formation which will shift between 5-3-2 and 3-5-2. Gabriel Osho is also picked to start in defence for the first time this season. Elijah Adebayo, who’s 92nd-minute equaliser salvaged a point against Forest, will look to make a similar impact from the bench.

Villa have won 4-1 in their last two games, also beating AZ Alkmaar on the continent, and Emery makes four changes from the latter victory ahead of this one. Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres will occupy the heart of the defence, while Nicolo Zaniolo and Moussa Diaby will look to cause plenty of problems in the final third. Douglas Luiz netted either side of half-time against the Hammers, and keeps his place, as does fellow scorer Ollie Watkins up front.
