Dominic Solanke’s fizzing effort gave the Cherries the lead before Bruno Fernandes turned a loose ball into the back of the net from close range. The hosts took advantage of some slack defending as Justin Kluivert weaved into the box and slotted the ball past Andre Onana to restore the lead.
With United bereft of creativity and pass bounced up to strike Adam Smith on the arm inside his own box with referee Tony Harrington pointing to the spot and VAR deciding not to overturn. Fernandes scored the penalty and salvaged a draw for Erik ten Hag’s men.

Bournemouth had an added-time penalty award overturned by VAR as disjointed Manchester United escaped Vitality Stadium with a scarcely-deserved 2-2 draw thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ brace.
Referee Tony Harrington pointed to the spot five minutes beyond the 90 when Ryan Christie went down under a challenge from Willy Kambwala before changing his decision to a free-kick on review.
Erik ten Hag’s men were tormented for much of an uninspiring performance in Dorset and twice trailed in the first half following goals from Cherries pair Dominic Solanke and Justin Kluivert.

Solanke is the first player in front of the cameras. He says that Bournemouth “were confident” going into the game.
“We told ourselves we had beat them once this season so knew we could do it again. We created a lot of chances and should’ve been two or three up but we didn’t take the chances and the second half was a tight game.
“To beat United is something we’d love to do, it would’ve been a good chance to win it at the end so the boys are obviously a bit gutted about that.”
On his goal, he says that he “just had one thing on my mind and it was a good finish”.
“Football is crazy sometimes, I wouldn’t have thought I would score this many this season. We’ve been great this season and the manager has been great since he came in.”
On a potential place on the plane to the Euros, he adds that he “would love to be there”.
“I just need to keep scoring and try and get as many as I can and I can be in with a shout.”

For Manchester United, their next game is a potential banana skin as they play Coventry City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
After that, Erik ten Hag’s men welcome Sheffield United and Burnley to Old Trafford, before travelling to Crystal Palace on 6 May.
Their last three games see them host Arsenal and Newcastle before travelling to Brighton on the final day of the season on 19 May.
