Bournemouth 2-2 Aston Villa: Ollie Watkins hit a late equaliser as Unai Emery’s side stole a point on the south coast
A late goal from Ollie Watkins grabbed a point for Aston Villa in a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth after a pulsating, end-to-end Premier League clash.
Bournemouth took the lead in the 10th minute through Antoine Semenyo but Villa levelled 10 minutes later when Leon Bailey jinked inside Milos Kerkez before lashing the ball across Neto and in at the far post.
Villa had a first-half goal chalked off for offside and Dominic Solanke looked to have sealed the deal for Bournemouth seven minutes into the second half, but as the clock ticked up towards 90 minutes Watkins steered home a brilliant header to take a share of the points.
The result keeps Villa in fourth place in the table on 29 points after 14 games, while the Cherries remain above the relegation zone in 16th spot on 13 points.

The second half has started in a similar vein to the first, as both sides look to play the ball forward and create chances. Surely there are more goals to be had here.

In Premier League away fixtures, Aston Villa have earned 10 points from 21 available so far this season, winning on just three occasions. If the Birmingham club are to sustain their challenge for a top-five finish, surely that rate of accumulation will have to improve? They'll be going all out for victory in the second half, which could play right into buoyant Bournemouth's hands.

An action-packed half ends all square, following a flurry of chances at both ends, several bookings and plenty of attack-minded play. Bournemouth took an early lead through the influential Semenyo, who came close to scoring on two further occasions, but Bailey struck back with a stunning finish to haul Aston Villa level, before Diego Carlos saw his close-range strike ruled out by the VAR. While the Cherries couldn't hold on to their lead for long, Andoni Iraola will surely be pleased with how his side have maintained their momentum; Unai Emery, meanwhile, may be pondering changes.
