From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

England face India in the second Test at Lord's.

Sam Curran was the hero at Edgbaston taking four wickets in the first innings before turning the game in the second with the bat with a thrilling 63 counter-attack. England must do without Ben Stokes at the home of cricket, however, as his trial continues at Bristol Crown Court. Joe Root hopes that 20-year-old Ollie Pope, in for Dawid Malan, will help share the load in the all-rounder's absence.

Virat Kohli scored over 200 runs last time out but needs more help from his own batsman as they look to level the series.

We will have all the latest throughout the day here.

Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of the second Test between England and India at Lord's.

And the big news from Lord's this morning is not a debut for Ollie Pope (yet) or a return for Chris Woakes (yet), but rather that the covers are on and there are drops in the air.

After weeks of glorious sunshine in the capital, spells of rain are forecast throughout the day and there are likely to be several delays to the next stage of what is proving to be a thrilling Test series. Still, it gives us a chance to keep an eye on what's happening on transfer deadline day.

When the cricket eventually begins at Lord's, Ollie Pope, aged 20, will become the fourth player under the age of 21 to feature for England in 2018. As Sky Sports' cricket statistician, Benedict Bermange, shows it's something of a departure from the norm for the selectors.

A reminder that the coin toss has been delayed at Lord's on the first day of this second Test between England and India so here's a reminder of how the first match in the series panned out. It came to a thrilling conclusion at Edgbaston just five days ago - but that seems a lifetime ago for Ben Stokes.

There hasn't been any action at Lord's this morning but it's all happening in the Premier League as just five and a half hours of the transfer window remain.

As you can see, the outlook is bleak as far as the weather is concerned.

Also, your flight has been delayed.

Captain Virat Kohli aside, India's cricketers failed to shine with the bat at Edgbaston. However, here's one (former) batsman who is well prepared for the second Test.

Sourav Ganguly has fond memories of Lord's. He scored a century there on his Test debut in 1996.

What's on the menu today? No cricket at the moment, that's for sure.

An early lunch is expected as the weather continues to delay the start of the second Test.
