England have cruised to an eight-wickets victory over Bangladesh to continue their perfect start at the T20 World Cup. After Eoin Morgan’s side crushed West Indies in their opening match with a blistering display of bowling which saw them all out for 55, England were again impressive as they restricted Bangladesh to 124.

Moeen Ali removed Bangladesh’s openers with back-to-back deliveries, while Liam Livingstone took out the experienced pair of Mushfiqur Rahim and captain Mahmudullah just as they were beginning to build momentum. Chris Woakes yielded just 12 runs before Tymal Mills took consecutive wickets at the end of the innings to take his total to three.

Given a target of 125, Jason Roy smashed 61 runs from 38 balls alongside Jos Buttler (18) and Dawid Malan (28 not out) to secure a comfortable victory that sees England top Group 1 ahead of Saturday’s clash against Australia. Follow all the reaction and latest updates from the T20 World Cup below.

2nd over: Bangladesh 13-0 (Liton 9, Naim 4)

Chris Woakes takes the ball before Naim teases Dawad Malan with a scooped shot that the England man can’t quite reach out in the cover. A further ball from Woakes delivered to off-stump hits Liton’s pad. England appeal but to no avail.

1st over: Bangladesh 10-0 (Liton 9, Naim 1)

An exceptional start from Liton Das! After a couple of singles, Liton steps into a short ball from Moeen Ali and scoops the shot over the bowler’s head for his first boundary. The next ball brings the same result, with another bouncing shot to the off-side boundary.

England’s meeting with Bangladesh is their first encounter in a men’s T20I, as the Tigers look to bounce back following their opening defeat of the Super 12 to Sri Lanka.

“We know the challenges we’ll face,” England’s Jos Buttler said. “We’ve played against them lots in 50-over cricket. We know they are a dangerous side. They have got a lot of experience in T20 cricket as well, some very good players playing quite a specific style that is quite unique to them.

“We focus obviously and try to plan for the opposition but at the same time we are focusing on ourselves, trying to get our level of intensity to the place it needs to be.”

Last time out: England got off to a flying start in what was a rematch of the 2016 final against West Indies, with Adil Rashid posting historic numbers as they bowled their opponents out for just 55 runs. Rashid’s four for two was bolstered by Moeen Ali’s two for 17, before England quickly reached their target with 70 balls to spare to claim a statement victory in their World Cup opener.

“I think it’s as good as it gets to start a world tournament like that,” captain Eoin Morgan said. “Full credit has to go to our bowling unit, we stuck to our guns and the guys were very disciplined. We fielded well, took our chances and built pressure and momentum to create the rest of the chances throughout the innings.”
