Well, it’s exactly what the International Cricket Council would have wanted, a thrilling Test match that has come down to the final day.

India will break records and do something unimaginable if they are able to chase down 444, after resuming on the start of day five on 164 for three.

Crucially for India, Virat Kohli is still at the crease, and while a victory might be a long shot, there is a chance they could bat out the day and the match finish in a draw.

The game was handed an additional level of bite at the end of the fourth day when the third umpire had to get involved over a stunning low catch from Cameron Green, but the decision was upheld, Shubman Gill was on his way, and the Australian judged to have just got his hands underneath the ball.

Lunch: India 230-6, Rahane 89, Thakur 36

Well it’s been India’s morning after they have struggled at times throughout the first two days.

Australia and Pat Cummins will be left to rue missed opportunities with a dropped catch from Warner and yet another lbw overturned because of a front-foot no-ball.

Rahane has batted well and showed his class, perfectly picking off anything with width, and a good pitch at the Oval has seen the ball hit the boundary rope more often than not.

It’s been very sloppy from Australia and it’s India who have benefited on day three of the World Test Championship Final at the Oval.

Rahane might be regretting not trying to push on a bit more and he will have to restart on 89, but a player with as many Tests under his belt as he has should not be troubled by that.

Thakur will head in on 36, he has scored a half century against Australia before but will be looking to add another to his tally in the afternoon session.

APPEAL! Pat Cummins to Shardul Thakur. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, missed for no runs, fielded by Carey, appeal made for Caught.

Australia review for caught behind, but not out.

Another Australian review, Smith was absolutely convinced there that Thakur had edged that, but no one else was.

Cummins sends the decision upstairs and DRS shows no spike or bat involvement as the ball goes through to the keeper.

The Australian captain kicks the ball away for the final ball of his over and that’s lunch.
