Follow day 10 at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with 45 gold medals up for grabs
A thrilling penultimate day at Birmingham 2022 has delivered more action to this thoroughly entertaining Commonwealth Games, with 45 gold medals in total set to be dished out by the end of the evening.
Tonight was all about Laura Muir, and the Scotland star produced a brilliant kick to win gold in the women’s 1500m final, adding to her 800m bronze from the previous evening. Later, a wide-open men’s 800m final, was won by Kenya’s Wyclife Kinyamal ahead of Australia’s Peter Bol, with England’s Ben Pattison taking bronze.
Eilish McColgan added to her 10,000m gold with a gutsy silver in the 5,000m and there was further joy as England’s women wrapped up the action at the Alexander Stadium with a dramatic gold in the 4x400m final. It was short lived, however, after the team was disqualified following a lane infringment.
Earlier, home-town hero Matt Hudson-Smith was left disappointed when forced to settle for silver in the men’s 400m, while Victoria Ohuruogu was more upbeat, grabbing a silver in the women’s 400m final. There was drama in the 4x100m relay finals, with England men and Nigeria women prevailing.
In the afternoon, a dramatic men’s cycling road race saw Geraint Thomas fall just short with a late push to break the lead group, leaving New Zealand’s Aaron Gate to sprint clear and win a fourth gold at these Games. And in the result of the day, England pulled off a shock to stun Australia and win Commonwealth gold in the women’s hockey final. Follow all the action throughout the evening below:

The duo need to pull out a big final dive and they’ve done exactly that! Noah Williams has produced a brilliant performance on a painful ankle, and he hobbles off with a big grin and an arm draped around his teammate Matty Lee.
Canadian duo Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray wins silver as Australia’s Cassiel Rousseau and Domonic Bedggood earn bronze.
Men’s synchronised 10m platform final
This is a really tight 10m synchro final. English duo Matty Lee and Noah Williams have slipped back to second place after four rounds, with two dives to go, and they are now chasing the new leaders, Canada’s Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray – though there’s less than a point in it.
However, Williams limped off after his fourth dive with an apparent ankle injury, and he may now need to fight through the pain if they are going to win gold.

Noah Williams and Matty Lee are in action now in the men’s synchronised 10m platform, and they lead narrowly after the first two mandatory dives. Lee is an Olympic champion in this event while Williams won silver in the Commonwealths individual event four years ago.

Canadian 21-year-old Mia Vallee has won gold in the women’s 1m springboard ahead of Australia’s Brittany O’Brien, as English teenager Amy Rollinson earned an impressive bronze medal.
“I was just expecting to turn up and have a bit of experience, so to get this is crazy,” said the 18-year-old Rollinson, of Luton Diving Club, who revealed she never once looked at her rivals or the leaderboard. “I’ve never bothered looking at what everyone else is doing… I genuinely think the crowd helped, just standing on the board it was so nice to hear people cheering you to do well.”

Jack Laugher was full of praise after he sealed his second gold medal of the Commonwealth Games, winning the men’s synchronised three-metre springboard event alongside partner Anthony Harding.
In what is a relatively new partnership between the pair, they topped the leaderboard in Friday’s event with 438.33, winning by a massive 61.56 points.
For Harding, this is his first medal on his Commonwealth debut and the 22-year-old was delighted to finally have the chance to show what he can do.
