Follow day 10 at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with 45 gold medals up for grabs
A thrilling penultimate day at Birmingham 2022 has delivered more action to this thoroughly entertaining Commonwealth Games, with 45 gold medals in total set to be dished out by the end of the evening.
Tonight was all about Laura Muir, and the Scotland star produced a brilliant kick to win gold in the women’s 1500m final, adding to her 800m bronze from the previous evening. Later, a wide-open men’s 800m final, was won by Kenya’s Wyclife Kinyamal ahead of Australia’s Peter Bol, with England’s Ben Pattison taking bronze.
Eilish McColgan added to her 10,000m gold with a gutsy silver in the 5,000m and there was further joy as England’s women wrapped up the action at the Alexander Stadium with a dramatic gold in the 4x400m final. It was short lived, however, after the team was disqualified following a lane infringment.
Earlier, home-town hero Matt Hudson-Smith was left disappointed when forced to settle for silver in the men’s 400m, while Victoria Ohuruogu was more upbeat, grabbing a silver in the women’s 400m final. There was drama in the 4x100m relay finals, with England men and Nigeria women prevailing.
In the afternoon, a dramatic men’s cycling road race saw Geraint Thomas fall just short with a late push to break the lead group, leaving New Zealand’s Aaron Gate to sprint clear and win a fourth gold at these Games. And in the result of the day, England pulled off a shock to stun Australia and win Commonwealth gold in the women’s hockey final. Follow all the action throughout the evening below:

Alex Yee is England’s best hope after Jonny Brownlie pulled out. Yee is an Olympic silver medalist and is one of the favourites to take gold this morning.

England underperformed on Laura Kenny’s return to the track but they’ll compete for the bronze medal against Wales later today.

Canada’s women flew out of the traps but ship seven seconds or so in no time at all towards the end of their 4,000m and end up at the bottom of the pile.
Wales are the final team to set off and put in a technical ride. It’s not quick though and they finish behind England.
Australia and New Zealand will compete for gold with England and Wales going head-to-head for bronze.

The triathalon medals will be decided by a fast and furious sprint race featuring a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run – which are half the distances of the Olympic format.
The men’s race gets going at 11am, with the women’s race going off at 14:30pm.
England’s Alex Yee and New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde are expected to compete for gold in the men’s edition having won the four World Series events so far this season, with two wins each.
In the women’s race England’s Georgia Taylor-Brown takes on Bermuda’s Olympic champion Flora Duffy. Taylor-Brown leads the world standings, but Duffy took the win in her absence in Hamburg earlier this month.

It was a smooth, controlled and powerful ride from the quartet from down under who breeze into the top spot with a new Commonwealth Games record of 4:14.605.

England were the favourites to take the 4,000m team pursuit gold later today but they’re are risk of missing out now that they’ve given up a lot of time to New Zealand’s opening effort.
Laura Kenny is Great Britain’s most successful female Olympic athlete but didn’t compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, having given birth to her son Albie just eight months before.
Eight years after winning points race gold in Glasgow she has her sights set on adding to her Commonwealth tally.

1500m to go and England are still a second off the pace as they drop to three riders.
They can’t catch up.
England are over one and a half seconds behind New Zealand as they cross the line in 4:19.841. They’ll have a nervous wait now to see if they make it into the gold medal race.

England’s team is made up of Laura Kenny, Josie Knight, Maddie Leech and Sophie Lewis. After the first 500m England are half a second behind New Zealand already.
Kenny is leading the way out front but there’s no panic yet as they start to make inroads into the deficit.
They are the second team of five to take to the track, the fastest two will compete for the gold medal later today.

New Zealand are the first team to set a time in the women’s 4000m team pursuit and come home with a 4:18.434.
Next up are England who will be lead by Dame Laura Kenny making her return to the sport.

It’s been a decent start for England and Scotland in the Women’s tandem B sprint at the Lee Valley VeloPark in London.
Scotland’s Aileen McGlynn and Ellie Stone take second place with a time of 11.145 behind the Australian duo with England’s Sophie Unwin and Georgia Holt just a couple of hundreths of a second behind.
In fourth is another Scottish duo, Libby Clegg and Jenny Holl. Clegg is a two-time sprinting Paralympic champion who has recently switched to cycling.
This is her first competitive cycling race.
