KSI and Logan Paul will finally fight tonight as their eagerly-anticipated rematch takes place in Los Angeles – and both men are poised to make a pretty penny.
The two YouTubers are technically fighting for the ‘YouTube Championship Belt’ – a fetching red and gold strap initially handed to KSI by London heavyweight Dereck Chisora.
But there’s also a lot of money at stake, too.
Both men will earn a guaranteed $900k, per the Californian State Athletic Commission.
That’s only slightly less than Devin Haney, the WBC lightweight champion of the world, who fights Alfredo Santiago Alvarez on the undercard.
But it’s more than the British WBO super-middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders will earn for his fight with the undefeated Marcelo Esteban Coceres. Saunders – an unbeaten world champion who has defeated the likes of Chris Eubank Jr, Andy Lee and David Lemieux – will make just $750k.
The first fight between KSI and Paul generated a cool $11m – although that doesn’t mean the two men divided the profits 50/50.
This fight is expected to make even more money, with both KSI and Logan Paul able to boost their profits through various sponsorship deals.
The first result of the night is in!
Reshat Mati beat Cody Peterson by KO to start things off.
Chris Stokel-Walker:
We're expecting 12,000 or 13,000 people here in attendance - in a venue that seats 17,000, according to the promoters.
The secondary market for sales has been sluggish. VIP Tickets, a ticket reselling company based just a block away from LA Live, where the fight weigh-in took place, said they weren't selling any tickets for the event.
Hawkers are offering tickets outside the arena, however - a staple at any live event.
They've had their problems but Deji is still backing his older brother.
Chris Stokel-Walker:
On the attendance, it's worth pointing out this was expected from fight organisers.
Eddie Hearn, whose company Matchroom Boxing is running the event, prefigured the fact this wouldn't be a sellout in an interview with The True Geordie, a YouTuber who was part of the commentary team for the first KSI-Paul bout.
"The arena holds 17,000. In America everybody buys late," he said. "If this was at the O2, we’d have gone on the first day. But bringing it to LA is a major statement. You did it in Manchester which was amazing and mad, but we know British fans are quite crazy. Staging it in LA, the entertainment capital of America, is quite a statement, I think."
Ronny Rios wins!
Another big win as he stops Hugo Berrio.
Chris Stokel-Walker:
Up next we have Diego Pacheco - whose family members were so confident he'd win. We've being treated to a viceo package showing his best bits. The concession stands are doing brisk business, though the concourses aren't yet packed out in the same way they were at Manchester Arena.
Chris Stokel-Walker:
It's fair to say that Diego Pacheco is popular in the arena here - perhaps the people in attendance have been following our live blog and find the fact his mm and sister take Ubers like the rest of us is #relatable
Chris Stokel-Walker:
A flurry of big blows made just now by Pacheco brought the audience alive - it feels like this could be 7-0 for the Californian, and soon.
Diego Pacheco wins!
After a dominant performance, he stops Aaron Casper after four rounds.
