Jake Paul admits being ‘a little scared’ ahead of Mike Tyson fight

Jake Paul produced a fine performance to stop Mike Perry in the sixth round, as the YouTuber remained sharp and banked another brutal knockout to set up a fight with Mike Tyson.

Paul, 27, now 10-1 as a boxer, was due to box Tyson, 58, this evening, but the heavyweight legend suffered an ulcer flare-up on a flight in May.

But an impressive display here, down at cruiserweight, saw Paul drop “Platinum” Perry three times in six energy-sapping rounds, confirming the rearranged bout with boxing legend Tyson in November on Netflix.

Paul also took the opportunity to call out UFC champion Alex Pereira after the fight, although the prospect of a future meeting remains unlikely given the Brazilian’s contractual situation and UFC boss Dana White’s previous reluctance to allow his fighters to perform outside of the promotion.

Relive all the action from Tampa Bay below and follow reaction as Jake Paul moves to 10-1 after victory over Mike Perry:

Jake Paul confirms new date for Mike Tyson fight

Jake Paul has confirmed he will fight Mike Tyson after securing a stoppage victory over Mike Perry.

Paul forced the referee to end the context in the sixth round of the fight, which was scheduled to replace the Tyson bout after the former heavyweight world champion suffered a health scare.

But despite revealing he has options away from Tyson, Paul reached out to ‘Iron Mike’, while confirming a date for their fight.

Mike Perry challenges Jake Paul to rematch with a twist

Perry tells Paul: “You were way too fast for me and I couldn’t adjust. I tried man, but the kid hit me hard, you were too heavy, good job.

“I’m fine, it’s a normal day for me, he hit me a little harder than my training partners. He’s making the right moves and making the right adjustments, he’s not sitting and waiting to be hit like me.

“Bare knuckle? Let’s do it. Or MMA. I can put my weight on him and grapple him up, let’s wrestle!”

Jake Paul sends message to Mike Tyson

Paul tells Ariel Helwani: “Mike, I love you, but this is my sport now, you’re a legend.

You’re one of the two most famous boxers to ever lived, alongside Muhammad Ali, so I’m honoured to share a ring with you. But I want to take your throne.”

Jake Paul confirms Mike Tyson date after fight rescheduled

Paul tells Ariel Helwani: “100 percent, it’s happening, 15 November, he’s training and looking crazier than ever, Netflix, I’ll prove everybody wrong.

“Everybody said I was making a mistake with this fight, but I take risks.

“I didn’t feel very good tonight, I was sick, my knuckle is swollen. It was basically broken before the fight. It didn’t delay this fight [so why would it delay the Tyson fight?], I’m a warrior!

“It’d be fun [to fight Perry in a bare knuckle fight], I’d be down for it, I love combat and going to war, in two years I will be the cruiserweight champion of the world. I’m way sharper, cleaner, he hit me with one good shot. Everybody said he would knock me out.”

Paul tells Ariel Helwani: "He's tough as nails, I'm sorry it took so long, respect to Perry, the King of Violence, I hit too hard and produced too much damage.

“Mike Tyson, you’re next big boy, sign the contract, 15 November on Netflix. [UFC champion] Alex Pereira, you said you want to box, I’m the king of this, come over, we can make this happen.

“Indeed, I’ve beaten multiple UFC champions, he said he wants to box.”

Mike Tyson reveals real reason behind Jake Paul fight: ‘Can I be honest?’

Mike Tyson has opened up on his motivations for boxing Jake Paul, as the heavyweight legend awaits his delayed fight with the YouTuber.

Tyson, 58, and Paul, 27, were due to box each other on Saturday (20 July), but “Iron Mike” suffered an ulcer flare-up on a flight in May. That health scare meant the officially sanctioned, professional bout was delayed until November, with Paul instead facing former UFC fighter Mike Perry this weekend.

Round 6

The left hook bounced off the top of Perry’s head, then a spear-like right came up through the middle to send him sprawling.

There was heart, but Paul beat up and dispatched Perry with an action-packed and maybe, at times, reckless display.

Mike Tyson next? It still feels strange to consider that fight, but for now it looks to be in the immediate plans for Paul and flirting with a bulkier frame and eventual move to heavyweight.

Round 6

Paul will want the finish here, three rounds to do the job with this bout only scheduled to go eight.

Gabe Rosado, on commentary for DAZN, is begging Perry to “put your hands up,” Paul now lurking and presumably ready to unload.

LEFT HOOK, RIGHT HAND, DOWN GOES PERRY!

Perry asked to step to his right by the referee, he does, but then almost tumbles to the canvas, it’s enough for the referee to wave this one off, Paul wins by TKO!
