Ryan Garcia dropped Devin Haney three times en route to a decision win in Brooklyn
Ryan Garcia shocked the boxing world by scoring a majority-decision win over Devin Haney on Saturday, dropping the super-lightweight champion four times en route to victory.
Garcia was ineligible to win the WBC belt after missing weight by three pounds on Saturday, and fans had expressed concern for the 25-year-old’s mental health due to his recent behaviour online, but “King Ryan” triumphed in stunning fashion in Brooklyn.
The American hurt his compatriot in the first minute of the fight, landing a clean left hook, and that signature punch caused Haney trouble throughout the bout, putting the “Dream” down in rounds seven and 11. Between those knockdowns, Garcia dropped Haney, 25, with a right hand in round 10, and those moments were enough to seal the victory.
Garcia was far from flawless, however, suffering a point deduction for punching on the break in round seven, and repeatedly turning his back on Haney as the fight progressed. Haney, in typical fashion, also controlled stretches of the bout with his jab, but Garcia’s moments of brilliance were enough to see him win 114-110 and 115-109 on two scorecards, while the other read 112-112.

The action is paused, as blood is pouring down Dibombe’s face. His cut is treated; if the bout is stopped within four rounds due to such an injury, it will be ruled a draw.

Melikuziev stands southpaw; Dibombe is orthodox.
There aren’t a ton of accurate shots landing so far, but Melikuziev is looking for his left cross repeatedly.
There’s a cut above Dibombe’s right eye, which might have come courtesy of a clash of heads.

The super-flyweights move to the ropes, where Ramirez eats a flurry of uppercuts! He’s leaking blood around his right eye now!
Ramirez’s blood is smeared over Jimenez’s chest. Jimenez’s shots look a little wild and laboured now, but they’re still landing, and he’s varying his punches well.

Jimenez kisses the forehead of his trainer before emerging for this round. And he gets right after Ramirez.
Jimenez backs up Ramirez with a series of jabs, before unloading hooks upstairs and downstairs with Ramirez backed up to the ropes.
Now Ramirez grabs ahold of Jimenez and leans against him by the ropes. Ramirez holds Jimenez with his left hand and hammers his right fist into the ribs of his opponent.

Round nine
Into the business end of this fight. Jimenez leaps in with a left hook, but Ramirez evades it with ease.
Now an overhand right lands for Jimenez, but there isn’t a ton of power on it. Ramirez drives Jimenez back to the ropes, leading with his shoulder.
Jimenez with a good right and left in the final exchange of the round!
