The Brit started brilliantly and almost knocked Rivas down in a thrilling second round. But the Colombian gamely battled back and sent Whyte to the canvas in the ninth.
However, Whyte held on to claim a unanimous decision. Relive all of the drama below:

The action begins at 6pm BST, with the main event expected to start around 10:30pm.

Round one
This is going to be fun. Both men get told off ahead of the fight for refusing to touch gloves. That's what we like to see. It's a tense, tetchy opening minute, which then threatens to ignite halfway though the opening round, when they clash on the ropes. Chisora lands a whiplash overhand right as he marches forward, attempting to close the distance. Szpilka fires back with a straight left and an uppercut, which causes blood to pour from Chisora's nose.
But Chisora battles back with a couple of wild right hooks and then a low blow, which the referee misses. A cracking opening round!
KNOCKOUT!
Dereck Chisora knocks out Artur Szpilka in the second round.
What a stunning end to the fight.
Chisora rocks Szpilka with a huge right hook which completely rocks the Pole. Then, with Szpilka stunned on the ropes, he connects with a second. Szpilka sinks down to the canvas and is out cold.
It's a huge knockout and Szpilka hits the canvas heavily, and is immediately surrounded by paramedics. Fortunately he is able to get back to his feet. That was a brutal finish.
Here is what Chisora had to say after that stunning victory. He wants Joseph Parker next!
The last two to four days everything came together. I’m 35, I still feel like I’m 16, I still want to fight in the big fights, as long as the British people support me like this, I’ll continue to fight. I like a fight, I love it, I can’t get enough of it. We want to try get Joseph Parker here. I’m looking forward to it.
