Saul “Canelo” Alvarez dominated Jermell Charlo on Saturday night, dropping the American en route to a one-sided points win in their undisputed vs undisputed fight.
Canelo entered the T-Mobile Arena as undisputed super-middleweight champion, and he left Las Vegas with that status intact after defeating Charlo, the undisputed super-welterweight champion. Canelo won a unanimous decision (119-108, 118-109, 118-109) with the highlight coming in Round 7, as the Mexican dropped Charlo to a knee after landing a hard overhand right.
Canelo, 33, marched down Charlo, also 33, for almost the entirety of the fight – the first to pit two undisputed male champions against each other in the four-belt era – and was unaffected by his challenger’s brighter moments.
Canelo, with his victory, became the first champion to retain their undisputed titles three times.

Charlo uses his jab to keep Canelo at range in the opening seconds of this round.
Canelo soon backs him up again, however, and goes to the well with a right hook once more. He seems content to batter the lead arm of Charlo. It’s a tactic that Canelo has used quite a lot in recent fights.
Charlo lets go with a trio of straight shots upstairs, then a left hook to the body. Nice work. Canelo fires back with a right to the body.
The Mexican holds Charlo in a headlock briefly, as the fighters clinch. And again.
Well-timed left hook to the liver from Canelo, who then goes high with a right hook! This is great work from the defending champion.
Charlo throws a jab and follows up rapidly with a step-in left hook, which lands around Canelo’s guard.

Both men stand orthodox. Charlo is quick to take the centre of the ring. There’s nothing thrown through the first 30 seconds, bar a teasing jab from Charlo.
Lots of subtle movements from both fighters, though. Charlo with another jab, but Canelo covers up. Now the Mexican comes forward, blocking another jab.
Canelo misses with a wild left hook to the body, which puts him off balance, as Charlo is backed up to the ropes.
Boos ring out at the midway point of the round due to a lack of activity from the boxers.
This time Canelo does land the left hook to the body, after blocking yet another jab. He lets go with a double-jab, then a hard right hand that Charlo blocks. The American is struggling to get into space now.
Canelo with a hooked one-two, as Charlo covers up again. Once more, Canelo loads up with a right hook as Charlo has his back on the ropes.
