Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow the latest updates live from New York where Callum Smith takes on Hassan N'Dam as he defends his WBA super-middleweight championship for the first time.

The Liverpudlian is one of the brightest British prospects and heads to America following his comprehensive victory over George Groves in Saudi Arabia last year, and an impressive showing at Madison Square Garden could put him in the frame to face the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

N’Dam will be no pushover as he arrives as a former middleweight champion, but Smith heads into the fight as the favourite and will be expected to put on a show after nine months away from the ring. Follow the live updates below.

Eddie Hearn speaking at the post-fight press conference:

Ruiz won fair and square. The next mandatory is the WBO, and I've already spoken to them. The rematch takes precedent. I believe all the belts will be on the line.

Eddie Hearn speaking at the post-fight press conference:

I'm sure there will be lots of people who are delighted AJ lost tonight but Deontay Wilder has zero class for kicking Joshua while he is down.

Adam Hamdani2 June 2019 05:41

What a sight.

Is an undisputed fight against Deontay Wilder on the horizon?

Adam Hamdani2 June 2019 05:43

Andy Ruiz in the post-fight press conference:

They overlooked me, the other guys - Wilder and Fury - we got the win and I'm really happy. Everything is possible, never give up, keep working. We just made history. It's down to the way I look that people underestimate me.
