Donald Trump has launched a bigoted attack on migrants, claiming they are predisposed to committing violent crimes because of “their genes” during an interview with Hugh Hewitt.

The former president, in a separate interview, claimed he wasn’t worried about Hurricane Helene disrupting the 2024 vote since his supporters were willing to “crawl” to the polls.

The Republican also appeared in Florida this evening at an event commemorating the October 7 attack on Israel.

Meanwhile, non-binary TV star Jonathan Van Ness says finding that they appear in a pro-Trump ad that attacks Kamala Harris is “surreal” and “upsetting”, warning their followers of the threat of “white nationalist Christian politicians” to society.

Vice President Kamala Harris is continuing her media blitz this week, after touring storm-hit Georgia and North Carolina, and making an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, during which she attacked Trump’s running mate JD Vance over his notorious “childless cat ladies” comment.

The Democratic Party nominee will appear on 60 Minutes on Monday night, as well as ABC’s The View, Howard Stern’s radio show, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Her running mate Tim Walz also visits Trump nemesis Jimmy Kimmel on Monday.

Full story: Biden marks anniversary of October 7 attacks

President Joe Biden on Monday marked the grim anniversary of the October 7 attacks on Israel in a small White House ceremony accompanied by a prayer and a memorial candle, one year since Hamas militants killed at least 1,200 and took 250 hostages in the surprise attack.

Biden stood in the Blue Room of the White House alongside First Lady Jill Biden and Rabbi Aaron Alexander, the head rabbi at Washington’s Adas Israel Congregation, as Alexander offered a prayer in both Hebrew and English.

Andrew Feinberg reports from Washington, DC.

The number of antisemitic incidents in the US reached its highest since 1979 in the 12 months since the terror attacks on October 7, new data has shown.

According to preliminary data collected by the Anti-Defamation League, there were more than 10,000 instances of antisemitism between October 7, 2023, and September 24, 2024.

These newly released figures represent more than a 200 percent increase compared to the incidents reported to the ADL during the same period a year before, which saw 3,325 incidents.

Watch live: Joe and Jill Biden light candles to mark October 7 anniversary

Watch live as Joe Biden and Jill Biden mark one year since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

The President and First Lady were joined by Rabbi Aaron Alexander of Adas Israel Congregation for the candle lighting in remembrance of the victims of the October 7 attacks.

The Rabbi recited the “El Malei Rachamim” prayer, which translates to "God full of Mercy.” It is a Jewish prayer for the soul of a person who has died. It is recited during burial services and memorial services.

The Rabbi’s recitation mentioned the areas in Israel that were attacked on October 7 before the president lit a yahrzeit candle, which is a candle lit in memory of the dead in Judaism. There was then a moment of silence.

Rabbi Alexander is a family friend of the Goldberg-Polin Family. Hersh Goldberg-Polin was abducted by Hamas on October 7, 2023 and held hostage for almost 11 months until he was murdered by Hamas.

In a statement, Biden said he and Kamala Harris “remain fully committed to the safety of the Jewish people, the security of Israel, and its right to exist.”

He added: “We support Israel’s right to defend itself against attacks from Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and Iran. Last week, at my direction, the United States military once again actively assisted in the successful defense of Israel, helping to defeat an Iranian ballistic missile attack.”

On Monday, Israeli civilians mark the anniversary of Hamas’ deadly 7 October attack, during which they killed around 1,200 people and took 251 more hostage in Gaza, 101 of which remain in the enclave.

Nearly 42,000 Palestinians have since been killed by Israel’s retaliatory air and ground attack in Gaza, according to the local, Hamas-run health ministry.

Texas hospitals will not be forced to perform emergency abortions after Supreme Court declines to hear appeal

The Supreme Court on Monday let stand a decision barring emergency abortions that violate the law in Texas, which has one of the country’s strictest abortion bans.

Without detailing their reasoning, the justices kept in place a lower court order that said hospitals cannot be required to provide pregnancy terminations that would violate Texas law.

The Biden administration had asked the justices to throw out the lower court order, arguing that hospitals have to perform abortions in emergency situations under federal law. The administration pointed to the Supreme Court’s action in a similar case from Idaho earlier this year in which the justices narrowly allowed emergency abortions to resume while a lawsuit continues.

Why was Melania Trump in the situation room with no security clearance?

Melania Trump has revealed that she once visited the White House Situation Room to watch a crucial anti-terror operation unfold – despite not having the proper security clearance.

In the former first lady’s new memoir Melania, which is due to hit shelves on Tuesday, she recounts the moment in autumn 2019 when her husband, then-president Donald Trump, summoned her to watch the pursuit of Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi play out.

Illegal crossings at southern border fall to new Biden administration low

The number of migrants crossing into the US illegally at the southern border reached the lowest point of President Joe Biden's administration in September, three months after his crackdown on asylum claims, CBS News reports citing internal Department of Homeland Security statistics.

In September, US Border Patrol agents recorded nearly 54,000 apprehensions of migrants who crossed into the country between legal entry points along the border with Mexico, the new data shows. The previous Biden-era low was in July, when Border Patrol apprehended 56,000 migrants.

This new low is the lowest number recorded since August 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions countries enacted in response to it led to a sharp decrease in migration. It's also a 78 per cent drop from a record high in December 2023, when illegal border crossings soared to 250,000.

A further 48,000 migrants were processed in September at legal border entry points, known as ports of entry, the DHS figures show. Most of them secured appointments to enter the US via a phone app the Biden administration has transformed into the main gateway into the American asylum system.

Trump’s rambling and angry speeches raise concerns about his age and fitness to serve another four years

Former President Donald Trump’s rambling and increasingly angry speeches focused on the past have increased concerns about his age and fitness to serve another term in the White House.

The 78-year-old former president has recently suggested there was an audience at his September 10 debate with Vice President Kamala Harris when there was none, and he has indicated that North Korea is attempting to assassinate him when he’s likely to have meant Iran. He misspeaks and misremembers things to such a degree that it no longer appears to garner much attention.

In September, more than a month after President Joe Biden left the race, Trump was talking as if he was still running against him and not Harris.

Gustaf Kilander has the story.
