Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

The Democratic National Committee has released an ad calling Donald Trump “chicken” for refusing to commit to another presidential debate against Kamala Harris.

The former president has repeatedly claimed that he won the first debate and therefore there is no need for another. Few people outside of Magaworld share this assessment of their September 10 showdown.

In good news for team Trump, a new poll from The New York Times shows him leading in Georgia, North Carolina, and in Arizona by five points.

The poll, conducted from September 17-21, found the race is closest in North Carolina, where Trump currently sits at 49:47 percent against Harris. In Georgia, the poll puts Trump four points ahead 49:45 percent.

Meanwhile, Ryan Routh, the man accused in the apparent assassination attempt of Trump at his Florida golf course, left behind a note saying that he intended to kill the former president and kept a handwritten list of dates and venues where Trump was to appear, the Department of Justice has revealed.

The new allegations were included in a detention memo filed before a hearing on Monday to determine whether he should be detained as the case progresses.

Trump’s attacks are just the latest indignity for Haitians in North Carolina

Eric Garcia reports from North Carolina:

When Mirlesna Azor-Sterlin heard former president Donald Trump repeat the lie that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio were eating pets during his debate with Kamala Harris, she was reminded of her job as an educator at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“We teach our students to — when they’re writing papers in class — to really have the facts right, the evidence,” she told The Independent on a Thursday evening in a suburban neighborhood in Durham, North Carolina. She was surprised that Trump and Vance failed to do the same.

The story was repeatedly debunked until Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, admitted himself that the story was made up.

“Repeating something just for the sake of repeating it is the tactic there. Without any factual evidence, continuously to repeat it is a choice,” Azor-Sterlin added.

Vance mocked for saying eggs cost $4 — while standing directly in front of a dozen for $2.99

JD Vance was roundly mocked online over a trip to the supermarket where he bemoaned the steep price of eggs.

The Republican vice presidential nominee stopped by a supermarket in Reading, Pennsylvania, with his sons over the weekend to illustrate how grocery prices have been impacted by “Kamala Harris’s policies” when he claimed a dozen eggs cost $4.

The problem? When footage of the visit emerged, Vance was quickly called out by viewers who spotted the price tag of a dozen eggs behind him was actually $2.99.

Rhian Lubin has the story.

Explained: Tthe Trump family’s new cryptocurrency venture

Io Dodds writes:

“You can literally sell s*** in a can, wrapped in piss, covered in human skin, for a billion dollars if the story’s right, because people will buy it.”

So said internet marketer and self-professed “dirtbag” Chase Herro from the driver’s seat of his Rolls-Royce in a 2018 YouTube video, according to Bloomberg News.

Six years later, Herro is one of the brains behind a new cryptocurrency venture backed by none other by Donald Trump and his three sons. The elder sons, Don Jr and Eric are leading the promotion, although supposedly it is 18-year-old Barron who will serve as the project’s “visionary”.

Trump tries to sow doubt in validity of overseas ballots

In his latest Truth Social post, Donald Trump is sowing doubt in the validity of overseas ballots in the 2024 election from American expatriates living abroad and service personnel stationed around the world.

The former president wrote on today:

The Democrats are talking about how they’re working so hard to get millions of votes from Americans living overseas. Actually, they are getting ready to CHEAT! They are going to use UOCAVA to get ballots, a program that emails ballots overseas without any citizenship check or verification of identity, whatsoever. (Foreign interference?) Remember they say, we have the “most secure elections in history,” and anyone can get a ballot emailed to them! They want to dilute the TRUE vote of our beautiful military and their families, who Comrade Kamala has totally disrespected and abandoned. Republicans must act to stop them from stealing our military votes. WATCH! Remember, IF YOU VOTE ILLEGALLY, YOU’RE GOING TO JAIL.

How Project 2025 became Trump’s worst nightmare

These days, “Project 2025” is nothing but a dirty word (or pair of words) to staffers on Donald Trump’s third bid for the presidency. After months of negative coverage and attacks from Democrats, Trump and his top aides are both engaged in a conscious effort to distance the former president from the project whenever possible. That effort drew to a heated pitch this summer as top Trump campaign officials Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles released a statement crowing over the resignation of a top Project 2025 operative and declaring the various groups involved with the plan to be speaking on the former president’s behalf without his permission.

This wasn’t supposed to be how the election went at all. The question remains: How did the Heritage Foundation and the other conservative groups behind Project 2025 fumble the bag this badly?

The answer seems obvious: Donald Trump. But that wasn’t obvious to anybody working on the effort.

John Bowden reports.

Trump asked what is his plan is to bring down prices

Donald Trump was asked by Sharyl Attkisson of Sinclair’s Full Measure what he would specifically do to bring down prices.

His rambling response was... not exactly specific but seemed to revolve around drilling and magically bringing down energy costs.
