Kamala Harris agrees Trump’s vision is about ‘fascism’

Your support helps us to tell the story

This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Help us keep bring these critical stories to light. Your support makes all the difference.

Donald Trump has stoked outrage by claiming to be “the father of IVF” at a women’s town hall event hosted by Fox News, inviting cries of protest given his track-record on rolling back women’s rights, notably his instrumental role in overturning Roe vs Wade in 2022 and flirtation with a nationwide abortion ban.

“We really are the party for IVF,” the Republican presidential nominee insisted.

“We want fertilization, and it’s all the way, and the Democrats tried to attack us on it.”

His rival Kamala Harris meanwhile continued her swing-state media blitz as she laid into Trump in an hour-long town hall interview with Charlamagne Tha God in Detroit, declaring she is “going to” win the election, agreed with the host when he called her opponent’s policy platform “fascist” and defended her own record in office.

Harris will next be seen in an interview with Fox’s Bret Baier on Wednesday.

Also on Tuesday, Trump told a rally in Atlanta, Georgia, that he considers illegal immigration a greater problem than inflation.

“We don’t want them in this country,” he said.

“We’re getting them too fast. And I think it’s bigger than the economy.”

Annoyed Trump lashes out at Bloomberg editor when confronted over US economy

Donald Trump lashed out at Bloomberg editor John Micklethwait when confronted over the state of the US economy. Trump took part in a rambling live interview with Bloomberg at the Economic Club of Chicago on Tuesday (15 October). The former US president appeared to get rather irate when editor-in-chief John Micklethwait challenged him on his economic plans. Mr Micklethwait accused Trump of running up “enormous debts” and making false promises, as he quoted a story in The Wall Street Journal. Trump responded: “What does The Wall Street Journal know? They’ve been wrong about everything. “So have you, by the way, you’ve been wrong. “You’ve been wrong all your life on this stuff.”

DJT shares briefly halted after Trump Media stock plunge

Stock in Donald Trump’s media company went on a rollercoaster ride on Tuesday, with officials briefly pausing trading due to volatility, according to a Nasdaq alert.

First, Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Trump’s Truth Social platform, seemed set to continue on its recent hot streak, which saw the share price increase by 18 percent on Monday and then another roughly 10 percent on Tuesday morning.

It was a shocking comeback after the stock hit an all-time low just three weeks ago, a rally that temporarily added an estimated $2bn to the value of the former president’s majority stake in the company.

However, around 2:20pm ET, the share price began to plunge dramatically.

Josh Marcus reports.
