This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

In a combative appearance at the Economic Club of Chicago, Donald Trump clashed with Bloomberg editor John Micklethwait over his tariff plans, refused to accept basic mathematics, swerved a question on his interactions with Vladimir Putin since leaving office, offered his revisionist version of January 6, and again trash-talked Detroit.

This comes amid concerns over his health and mental acuity and the accusation by Democratic rival Kamala Harris that he is “increasingly unstable and unhinged” after a threat over the weekend to deploy the National Guard or even the military against American citizens.

The former president appeared in that state on Monday night when his town hall event in suburban Philadelphia turned into a confused, impromptu dance party when two people in the audience suffered medical emergencies.

Trump was left bizarrely bopping his head on stage for 39 minutes to a selection of pop music and show tunes leading Harris to tweet: “Hope he’s okay.”

Meanwhile, in a move to reach out to Black male voters, Harris will appear at a town hall hosted by Charlamagne Tha God, who is especially popular with the demographic. On Monday the vice president announced a series of new proposals dubbed the “Opportunity Agenda for Black Men.”

Trump claims people ‘fainted from the excitement’ at his totally surreal town hall

Former President Donald Trump claimed that multiple attendees fainted from “excitement” during his surreal town hall event in Oaks, Pennsylvania on Monday night.

The event was interrupted by several medical emergencies, during which Trump stopped taking questions and chose to play music as the attendees received medical care.

Harris to appear with Charlamagne tha God as outreach to Black male voters

In a move to reach out to Black male voters, Kamala Harris will appear at a town hall-style event in Detroit on Tuesday afternoon hosted by the morning radio program The Breakfast Club, featuring Charlamagne Tha God, who is especially popular with the demographic.

The vice president’s appearance comes one day after she announced a series of new proposals dubbed the “Opportunity Agenda for Black Men.” The ideas are meant to offer the demographic more economic advantages, including providing forgivable business loans of up to $20,000 for entrepreneurs and creating more apprenticeships. The plan would also support the study of sickle cell and other diseases more common in Black men.

The focus on Black men sharpened last week when former President Barack Obama campaigned for Harris in Pittsburgh and said he wanted to speak “some truths” to Black male voters, suggesting some " just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president.”

The vice president’s campaign says it doesn’t believe Black men will flip in large numbers to supporting Trump, especially after strongly backing Democrat Joe Biden, with Harris as his running mate, in 2020. They are more concerned about a measurable percentage of Black males opting not to vote at all.

Sen Raphael Warnock, the first Black senator elected from the state of Georgia, issued a stark warning Tuesday to other Black men that voting for Trump will be “literally dangerous” for them, as the former president heads to Atlanta for a rally.

“He will be dangerous every time you get in the car and you deal with the issue of driving while Black,” Warnock said.

He argued that Democrats’ job is to reach Black men who are deciding whether to vote at all. “The issue is folks have got to understand that if you do not vote, it’s a vote for Donald Trump,” Warnock said.

Trump airs personal grievances when asked policy question about Google

Donald Trump was asked whether Alphabet, the parent company of Google, should be broken up during a live on-stage interview at the Economic Club of Chicago.

He answered by talking about voter rolls in Virginia as moderator John Micklethwait tried to keep him on topic.

The former president then claimed he was treated unfairly by Google and “fake news”.

Trump swerves question on interactions with Putin

Donald Trump was asked by John Micklethwait of Bloomberg, “yes or no”, whether he has spoken to Vladimir Putin since leaving office: “Well I don’t comment on that. But I will tell you that if I did, it’s a smart thing. If I’m friendly with people, if I have a relationship with people, that’s a good thing.”

There was also a strange story about a conversation he alleges he had with the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Watch: Trump clashes with Bloomberg editor-in-chief on tariffs

In a sit-down interview with Bloomberg at the Economic Club of Chicago, former President Donald Trump clashed with editor-in-chief John Micklethwait over his economic plans.

When challenged about his proposals for tariffs on foreign goods, Trump yet again refused to accept basic mathematics, the realities of how tariffs work, and how quickly a company might move production to the US before consumers are crippled by higher prices for foreign goods.

The irony of this moment...

And, wait...

Trump also yet again trash-talked Detroit, the largest city in the key battleground state of Michigan, before meandering off-topic on to foreign policy and World War Three.

Actor Julianna Margulies voices latest Lincoln Project ad

Acclaimed TV actor Julianna Margulies has lent her voice to the latest Lincoln Project ad encouraging voters to support Kamala Harris over Donald Trump.

The ad titled “Your Boys” focuses on teaching sons to respect women, be honest and honorable, and not bully or lie, and that voting against the example set by Trump is one way of doing that.

“Donald Trump and JD Vance are ugly, pathetic excuses for what it means to be a man,” said Lincoln Project Chief of Staff, Ryan Wiggins. “As boy moms, it is our responsibility to show our sons that treating women with respect and being an honest, honorable human is the highest form of ‘manliness.’ Vote for them by voting for her.”
