Kamala Harris dodged a question on whether she would pardon Donald Trump, during in interview NBC Nightly News that aired on Tuesday night.

During the sit-down, the vice president was asked what would happen should Trump declare victory before the official results of the election were returned.

“We will deal with election night and the days after as they come, and we have the resources and the expertise and the focus on that as well,” Harris said, adding that she had teams “ready”.

NBC’s Hallie Jackson asked: “Would you consider, if you win and he’s convicted, a pardon for former President Trump?” Harris replied: “I’m not going to get into those hypotheticals. I’m focused on the next 14 days.”

It comes as Trump called her “lazy as hell” for what he perceived as her absence from the campaign trail during a surreal roundtable in pursuit of the Latino vote at his golf club in Miami. It is reported that on Friday, the former president will sit down for an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan.

Later this evening former president Barack Obama will appear with rapper Eminem in Detroit, Michigan, and on Thursday, he will join rock legend Bruce Springsteen and Vice President Harris in Atlanta.

Obama voted in Chicago on Monday

President Barack Obama told the crowd at the Madison, Wisconsin, rally for Kamala Harris that he voted yesterday.

Obama told the crowd: “If you haven’t voted yet, I won’t be offended if you just walk out right now.”

“Don’t wait,” Obama said. “I voted yesterday in Chicago. I got my ballot, filled it in, sealed it, signed it, and then I walked – which I don’t always get the chance to do, and Secret Service got nervous – but I said, now let’s walk to a mailbox,” the former president said.

Explained: The US presidential election certification process

On November 5, Americans will cast their votes and decide whether Kamala Harris or Donald Trump will become the next president of the United States.

The casting of ballots across the 50 states will bring an end to perhaps one of the most dramatic election campaigns in living memory, which has seen a last-minute change at the top of the Democratic ticket and Trump survive two separate assassination attempts.

As it currently stands, the race looks set to go down to the wire, with the two candidates locked in a dead heat in most polling and the outcome likely to be decided by a handful of undecided voters in seven pivotal swing states.

Once the American people have voted, the results will be certified.

Joe Sommerlad explains how the process works.

Is gambling making politics fun?

Josh Marcus writes:

People can’t get enough of betting on the 2024 presidential election, and thanks to a recent legal ruling, it’s easier than ever for Americans to vote with their wallets.

On Polymarket, one of the top online exchanges, people have already spent over $1.2 bn betting on the US presidential election. That includes two mystery individuals betting millions on a Trump win.

Betting market odds are suddenly on the lips of US broadcasters and campaign spin doctors, quoted like polls and watched like the weather.

Betting on elections has long been prohibited in the US, but various exchanges and their users have found ways to get in on the action nonetheless.

Giuliani ordered to hand over Manhattan penthouse, Trump campaign money and 26 watches to defamed election workers

A vast amount of Rudy Giuliani’s property — including cash, a Manhattan penthouse, 26 watches, and money he claims he is owed by Donald Trump’s campaign — could soon be possessed by a court, after the disbarred former New York City mayor failed to pay a pair of election workers he owes tens of millions of dollars for defamation.

A federal judge in Manhattan on Tuesday ordered Giuliani to transfer a long list of valuables within seven days, pending the outcome of a court hearing on the state of his financial affairs on October 28.

Alex Woodward has the details.
