Kamala Harris will be joined by Oprah Winfrey on Thursday evening in Michigan for a major campaign fundraiser with an expected 200,000 people joining online as well as an in-studio audience.
The “Unite for America” live stream event starts at 8pm ET.
Meanwhile, the latest AP/NORC poll shows Harris pulling ahead of Donald Trump as the candidate of whom voters have a more positive view.
Specifically, the vice president scores higher on where she is “tough enough to be president”, “would change the country for the better”, and “would fight for people like you”.
The former president meanwhile scores highest on “will say anything to win the election”.
Trump delivered his latest rally in Uniondale on Long Island, New York, on Wednesday, pledging to “bring back religion” to thank God for saving his life, and asking New Yorkers to vote for him by saying: “What the hell do you have to lose?”
The Republican nominee also pledged to visit Springfield, Ohio, after he and running mate JD Vance spread a bogus story about Haitian immigrants stealing and eating residents’ pets, inspiring a spate of bomb threats.
Harris slams Trump for blocking bipartisan border bill
Kamala Harris blasted Donald Trump for making sure that the bipartisan border bill didn’t pass.
“Here's what that border security bill would have done. It would have put 1,500 more border agents at the border. Let me tell you, those border agents are working around the clock,” she said. “It would have just been about giving them some support and relief, which is probably why the border agents actually endorsed the bill.”
She added: “It would have allowed us to stem the flow of fentanyl. And I'm looking at people from all over the country here, so I don't need to tell the folks who are watching this what fentanyl has done to families, to kids in our country.”
The bill would have allowed us to have more resources to prosecute transnational criminal organizations, and it would have been part of the solution.
And Donald Trump called up those folks and said, ‘Don’t put that bill on the floor for a vote.’
He blocked the bill. And you know, why does he prefer to run on a problem instead of fixing a problem?
Harris takes the stage
Kamala Harris took the stage at the Unite for America event, saying “This movement, that is about reminding each other that we have so much more in common than what separates us, is so critically important, and this is about the strength of who we are as Americans.”
She added: “This movement that we're in about, as I like to say, seeing in the face of a stranger, a neighbor.”
‘You all know the stakes, or you wouldn’t be here,’
Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said, “First of all, this campaign is so inspired by the grassroots organizations that have come together like this, and it is making us stronger as a campaign to work together.”
“We have 47 days left, and you all know the stakes, or you wouldn't be here,” she added. “And while we have this extraordinary growing enthusiasm that the Vice President and Governor Walz are seeing everywhere, we are still in a margin-of-error race. It's tied.”
It’s tied right here in Michigan. It’s tied in all the battleground states. So it’s going to take all of us to build a pathway, many pathways, to 270 electoral votes. That’s what we’re focused on.
The campaign in every state, we have to register more people. We have to mobilize our voters to turn out to vote, and then we have got to go persuade those people that still don’t know enough about the vice president and her vision for the future.
And if we do that together, all of us, we’re going to get over the top, but it’s really going to take all of us and to make sure that you’re working in your own lives have those hard conversations in big and small ways, we’re going to inch our way over the finish line because we’re going to be able to do it together.
‘I choose experience and fortitude over something else'
Khalil Thompson, the founder of “Win With Black Men,” said on Thursday night that “brothers, men who are watching this and enjoying this moment, you have a choice. I choose experience and fortitude over something else. I come from a litany of amazing Black women.”
“We have a chance to do a performance review and give a promotion to the best-qualified candidate to be president United States,” he added.

A star-studded cast is taking part in the ‘Unite for America’ event in Michigan, including Brian Cranston, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Jennifer Lopez, Tracee Ellis Ross, Julia Roberts, and Meryl Streep.

Oprah Winfrey introduced the various groups taking part over Zoom, including cat ladies for Kamala, rural Americans for Harris, caregivers for Kamala, train lovers for Harris-Waltz, chefs for Kamala, Republicans for Harris, and Swifties for Kamala.

As she introduced the “Unite for America” event from Michigan, Oprah Winfrey said she was taking part because she cares “deeply about the future of our country, and I know that all of you do too, you care about the future of our country.”

Trump hits out at former ally Howard Stern for ‘going woke’
Donald Trump has gone after Howard Stern for turning on the former president in recent years, something Trump has blamed on the radio show host becoming “woke.”
Trump appeared on the Fox News late-night show Gutfeld! on Wednesday evening where he was shown a clip of the radio host and several other celebrities lambasting the former president.
