Kamala Harris calls out Donald Trump’s ‘lack of empathy’

Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

Kamala Harris has taken a three-point lead in the latest New York Times/ Siena College national poll — the first time she has pulled ahead of Donald Trump in that survey.

The vice president continued her media blitz on Tuesday as sat down with the co-hosts of ABC’s The View to discuss the campaign and her proposal for Medicare to cover at-home care for seniors. She also appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show for a lengthy, wide-ranging interview and later is a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

On Monday she gave the traditional election interview to CBS’s 60 Minutes — which Trump did not agree to — and was pressed on her economic plan, US support for Ukraine and Israel, and her experiences as a gun owner.

Meanwhile, former president Trump reportedly sent Vladimir Putin Covid-19 test kits at the height of the pandemic, according to a new book by veteran Watergate journalist Bob Woodward. Trump also spoke with the Russian leader as many as seven times after leaving the White House, it alleges.

The Trump campaign has called the stories “made up” and Woodward “demented and deranged” and a “sleazebag”.

Trump White House ‘helped steer’ Brett Kavanaugh sexual assault allegations investigation

The Trump White House put restraints on the FBI’s investigation into claims of sexual assault against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his 2018 confirmation process, according to a report from the office of a Democratic senator.

Then-President Donald Trump said the FBI would have “free rein” to investigate the allegations and that the agency was “talking to everybody.”

Gustaf Kilander reports on what happened next.

Watch: Alina Habba attacks article suggesting Nikki Haley could help Trump campaign

In an appearance on Fox News this afternoon, Donald Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba began to trash an article suggesting that the former president should deploy Nikki Haley on the campaign trail to convince “the reluctant but persuadable” to vote for him.

Her reason? Because the article is from The Washington Post. Anchor Martha MacCallum then notes the article is written by Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen...

Senator calls Jack Smith evidence against Trump a ‘temper tantrum from a deranged fanatic’

Republican Senator Tom Cotton blasted Jack Smith’s latest filing in the federal election interference case against Donald Trump as a “temper tantrum from a deranged fanatic.”

The senator from Arkansas, speaking to NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, dismissed the special counsel’s detailed findings in a 165-page filing stuffed with new and expanded evidence against the former president.

Alex Woodward, who has been closely following that case, reports for The Independent.

Trump attacks ‘dummy’ Harris and the 'dumb women’ on The View

Donald Trump is trying to leverage The View’s Kamala Harris interview to attack the “dummy” vice president and the co-hosts of the show, whom he calls “degenerates” and “dumb women”. He is referring to her answer about what she might have done differently to President Joe Biden (as we wrote about here earlier).

The former president then drifted into an all-caps shpiel on the alleged failings of the current Biden-Harris administration.

Here’s what he wrote on Truth Social:

Lyin’ Kamala, who is being exposed as a “dummy” every time she does a show, just stated to the degenerates on The View that she would have done nothing different than Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES. The Lamestream Media doesn’t want to pick up the story, the dumb women on the show wish they never asked her the question that led to that Election Defying answer, but the Internet is going WILD. For starters, THE BORDER DISASTER, WITH MURDERERS AND EVERYONE ELSE BEING ALLOWED TO INVADE OUR COUNTRY, WORST INFLATION IN HISTORY, THE UKRAINE DISASTER, OCTOBER 7TH WITH ISRAEL, LOSS OF ENERGY INDEPENDENCE, THE AFGHANISTAN DEBACLE, LOSS OF RESPECT ALL OVER THE GLOBE, AND MUCH MORE! Her dumbest answer so far!

Does Harris’s Medicare at-home care proposal stand up to scrutiny?

Vice President Kamala Harris has announced a policy proposal to have Medicare cover the cost of home care workers as part of her broader economic policy.

The vice president and Democratic nominee for president made the announcement on The View, to applause.

“It’s about independence for that individual,” she said. “People are declining in skills to some extent, but their dignity, their pride has not declined. They want to stay in their home.”

Eric Garcia reports.

Harris addresses Trump’s potential election-loss denials on the Howard Stern Show

Kamala Harris told Howard Stern that Donald Trump is preparing to be a “sore loser” as the former president continues to refuse to say he is willing to accept the results of the 2024 election.

Stern — who repeatedly assailed the former president as he interviewed his Democratic rival on Tuesday— blasted Trump’s “delusional” framing of the outcome of this year’s election.

Alex Woodward listened to the interview.

Hurricane Milton: Biden urges Floridians to ‘evacuate now, now, now’

President Joe Biden warned Florida residents to heed evacuation orders and avoid being trapped as Hurricane Milton approaches the state, calling the storm potentially the worst to hit the Sunshine State in more than 100 years.

“If you’re under evacuation or orders, you should evacuate now, now, now. You should have already evacuated. It’s a matter of life and death,” he said while addressing reporters in the White House after receiving a briefing on preparations for the storm.

Trump attacks ‘NOTHINGNESS’ Fox News (again): ‘What’s the purpose in watching?'

Donald Trump has hit out at Fox News for showing two sides to an argument during their daytime news programming.

Here’s what the former president wrote on Truth Social:

The problem with FoxNews is that every time they put on someone who is positive and touting all of the good things I have done for the Country, they always feel it necessary to follow up with a really negative voice, often people who are storytellers and willing to outright lie. The daytime anchors are no match for these lunatics, and they get away with absolute murder. The net result is NOTHINGNESS, so what’s the purpose in watching?
