Ms Kingsbury and Adam Fravel, the father of the children, were no longer in a romantic relationship and Ms Kingsbury was looking to move, Megan Kingsbury told KARE 11 over the weekend.
Megan said her sister was looking for a place to live in the area to remain close to Mr Fravel so her children could see him as often as possible.
Mr Fravel does not have custodial rights to his children.
Ms Kingsbury was last seen on 31 March after dropping their two children off at daycare with Mr Fravel.
Megan said she last heard from her sister the morning she went missing, the two were exchanging text messages. But later that day, when Ms Kingsbury’s family could not reach her, they became concerned.
The Kingsbury family, people in the community, and law enforcement have spent the past two weeks searching tirelessly for Ms Kingsbury.
Mr Fravel denies any involvement in Ms Kingsbury’s disappearance.
So far, police have not named any suspects.

On 12 April, the Winona Police Department provided an update about the disappearance of Madeline “Maddi” Kingsbury, nearly two weeks after the 26-year-old went missing.
Winona Police reiterated that evidence suggests Ms Kingsbury’s disappearance was “involuntary and suspicious.”
“We remain extremely concerned for her safety,” they wrote.
Who is Madeline Jane Kingsbury?
Madeline “Maddi” Jane Kingsbury has been missing for two weeks.
The 26-year-old mother-of-two is from Winona Minnesota and disappeared mysteriously on 31 March after dropping her two young children off at daycare.
Ms Kingsbury has become the subject of national media attention as police, her family, and community members search for her.
Megan Kingsbury, the sister of Ms Kingsbury described her as a “hardworking and dedicated mother.”
“She’s my best friend. She was really funny as a little kid. She liked to pick out her own clothes and they never matched. And she loved wearing dark red lipstick that was always on her teeth,” Megan told ABC6 News.
Ms Kingsbury was knowingly close with her family. Her sister last heard from her around 8.15 am on the morning of her disappearance.
After her family couldn’t get in contact with her during the day, they knew something was wrong.
Ms Kingsbury’s mother, Krista Naber, told News Nation, “Madeline was just a hard-at-work mom, she took care of her two babies, she had started graduate school in January. Things were finally looking up for her.”
Adam Fravel involved in custody dispute
Adam Fravel, the father of missing 26-year-old Madeline Kingsbury, was involved in a custody dispute in the days after Ms Kingsbury’s disappearance.
According to a petition from the Winona County Health and Human Services, obtained by Fox News Digital, Mr Fravel allegedly did not cooperate with authorities when they placed his two children on a 72-hour-hold after Ms Kingsbury went missing.
“Father took the younger child into the residence and locked the door despite being told that the children were in the care and custody of Winona County,” the document reads. “While Father was in the home with the younger child, Social Worker could hear Father shouting expletives.”
The document alleges that Mr Fravel called his attorney who “advised” him to “take the children in the home so that they could not be removed.” He also made threats to sue Winona County.
Eventually, when Mr Fravel placed his children into a vehicle, he refused to let social workers help put the kids into car seats and ended up putting them in the wrong car seats. He also refused to gather the children’s belongings so they left only with the clothes they were wearing.
Megan Kingsbury, the sister of Ms Kingsbury, confirmed to the public that Mr Fravel currently does not have custody of his children but assured people that they are safe and in good hands.

Search continues for Madeline Kingsbury
The Finding Madeline Kingsbury Facebook Page told people on Friday, 14 April that they would be searching for Ms Kingsbury over the weekend via horseback.
“We are beyond [grateful] and overwhelmed with the amount of equine volunteers that have reached out. Because of this we are working to best figure out where to utilize everyone. We are working with law enforcement to sort out a plan, please do not contact their offices to limit traffic to equine coordinators, admins, and law enforcement.”
Ms Kingsbury has been missing for two weeks.

“Nothing in life prepares you for this,” the Kingsbury family wrote in a statement posted to Facebook.
On 12 April, the Winona Police Department and Kingsbury family provided a statement and press release about the disappearance of Ms Kingsbury.
The 26-year-old mother-of-two was last seen and heard from on 31 March. Police have conducted one large mass search and now smaller searches led by community members are underway.
“We’re overwhelmed by the dedication and tangible expressions of love demonstrated by the huge circle of warriors she unknowingly gathered around her- her sorority sisters, coworkers at Mayo Clinic, and other places, fellow students from her days at Winona State, other moms and her many, many friends, acquaintances and people whose lives she touched.”
There have been so signs of Ms Kingsbury thus far but her family says they are not giving up hope.
“We will find Madeline. This is our mission and we will not falter.”
An update on Madeline Kingsbury’s van
Madeline “Maddi” Kingsbury’s dark blue Chrysler Town and Country van is currently being processed for evidence according to Winona Police.
The dark blue van is at the center of the investigation as law enforcement believes the whereabouts of the vehicle may lead to the location of Ms Kingsbury.
They’ve asked residents in Winona County and Fillmore County to check their home security cameras for any footage captured on 31 March or 1 April to see if they can spot the van.
“Throughout the investigation, we have worked closely with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA to identify and process any available forensic evidence,” the Winona Police said in a press release.
“We are following up on leads and paths of inquiry trying to get answers in this case.”

8.15 am, 31 March- Ms Kingsbury returned home in her dark blue Chrysler Town & Country van.
10 am, 31 March-The father of Ms Kingsbury’s children told police officers he left her residence in the dark blue van.
The father of the children returned to Ms Kingsbury’s residence and told authorities she was no longer home. Ms Kingsbury’s cellphone, ID, wallet, and jacket she was wearing earlier that day were left inside.
1.30 pm, 31 March- The dark blue Chrysler Town & Country van was spotted traveling southbound on County Road 12 and Highway 43 in Winona County. Police did not say who was driving.
1 April- Winona Police Department released Ms Kingsbury’s photo saying they are seeking information in her disappearance.
7 April- The Winona County Sheriff’s Office and Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office conducted a mass search.
8 April- Law enforcement announced they will be ending the planned second mass search because there were enough volunteers to cover more ground.
12 April- The Kingsbury family and Winona Police release a statement saying they are still searching for Ms Kingsbury. The father of Ms Kingsbury’s children also releases a statement telling the public he had nothing to do with her disappearance.
Madeline Kingsbury had plans to see sister day after she vanished
Megan Kingsbury said that she and her 26-year-old sibling had arranged to meet on Saturday 1 April but were yet to flesh out the details of the plans.
They were messaging on the morning of Friday 31 March, with Megan revealing she received the last text from her sister at around 8.15am.
Neither she nor anyone else has seen or heard from Ms Kingsbury since then.
