From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Boris Johnson has said he will make the NHS an "overwhelming priority" during his renewed tenure in No. 10 following a political “earthquake” which which saw Labour support give way top a comfortable Tory majority.
However he has not extended the same olive branch to voters north of the border - telling Nicola Sturgeon he would not lend any support to a second independence referendum.
Meanwhile Jeremy Corbyn has refused to take responsibility for the worst Labour showing since 1935 - blaming Brexit for the party’s devastating defeat.

Referendum should be held in 2020 if SNP wins in Scotland, says Westminster leader
SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford said if his party wins in Scotland Boris Johnson should allow a referendum on independence to be held in 2020.
Speaking to ITV News, he said: "We've now won every election in Scotland since (2014) so if Boris Johnson respects democracy then he has to respect the right of the people of Scotland to determine their own future."
He added: "If Scotland votes for the SNP, Boris Johnson, or any other prime minister, has to respect the views, the votes and the wishes of the Scottish.
"To do otherwise is an affront to democracy. All he will do is push people into arms of the SNP.
"We won this election tonight for Scotland, that should be respected. The Scottish government is pushing through legislation for a referendum, it should be recognised, we should be having that referendum on independence in 2020."
