Countdown to Brexit: How many days left until Britain leaves the EU?

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Theresa May has endured a day of intense scrutiny over her Brexit strategy ahead of an anticipated mauling in the local elections over delays to the UK's departure from the EU.

Ms May and Jeremy Corbyn held their last prime minister's questions clash ahead of Thursday's poll, as the Labour leader accused Ms May of failing to tackle the "burning injustices" she pledged to combat during her first day in office.

Amid mounting speculation that the prime minister could cave in to opposition demands, Ms May told senior backbenchers she hopes "a deal can be done" with Labour to find a consensus which can command a majority in parliament.

Corbyn says 'cuts and incompetence' have hit public services across the board. Will May admit that things are getting worse under her government?

An interesting observation...

SNP's Ian Blackford gets his turn. He says the Scottish government will offer free student fees to EU students in Scotland until 2021. Puts pressure on May to match it or spread the 'hostile environment'.

May says he is asking English students to pay for the commitment.

Blackford says she is blinded by ideology and asks if the government will extend visas to allow EU students to study in Scotland.

May says its rich for the SNP to say she is blinded by ideology and tells them to stop obsessing about independence if they are worried about students.

Labour's Paul Williams says his constituents are fed up with anti-social behaviour and are doing their own patrols. Will May review funding for Cleveland police, he asks?

The PM says police forces are getting more money but work needs to be done to turn young people away from crime and violence. She held a knife crime summit last month.

Deirdre Brock, SNP MP, asks why May won't tell her about meetings with Cambridge Analytica and Aggregate IQ at Downing Street. The companies are linked to the Facebook data row.

Brock says the FCO have now told her they held meetings. Why won't May?

May says she answers these questions and her government is more transparent than the Scottish Government.

Some MPs say the chamber is looking empty for what should be a box office event.

Labour veteran Jim Cunningham asks if the PM maintains her manifesto commitment to free TV licences and bus passes for pensioners.

May says she stands by her manifesto.

We are nearly 35 minutes in and no one has asked about Brexit...

Tory Tom Tughendhat says the UK could be 'nesting a dragon' if it allows Huawei to help build the 5G network and presses the PM on whether the risks are worth it for Chinese commercial gain.

May says she takes a 'hard-headed' view of the risks. There will be a security review to ensure the network is protected, she says.

Another ambitious Tory, Johnny Mercer, raises the case of a constituent, a former serviceman, who is being charged with attempted murder during the Troubles.

May says the system to investigate the past in Northern Ireland does need to change for the benefit of victims and service personnel.
