Mr Johnson has come under fire after it emerged that Sir Kim Darroch had decided to quit after Mr Johnson refused to support him during a televised leadership debate.
Elsewhere, Labour was plunged into fresh rows after whistleblowers claimed Jeremy Corbyn's team had interfered in the handling of antisemitism complaints.

Mel Stride, the House of Commons leader, has announced that there will be a debate on 17 July on Gemma White QC's report into bullying in the Commons. This will be followed by a "debate on a motion relating to the changes to the independent complaints and grievance scheme''.
He said:
"Any one person - and I say this as a father of three daughters - who is put into a position where they are preyed upon by somebody in authority, that is one way too many.
"And that needs to be stamped out.
"There needs to be absolutely no place for that."
Liz Truss has appeared to endorse Donald Trump's criticism of Theresa May, saying the prime minister's Brexit deal is a "dead duck".
The shadow chief secretary to the Treasury told a Westminster lunch:
"I'm a patriot so I don't like to hear any foreign leader slagging off our government.
"But fundamentally, whatever the rights and wrongs of the issue, the deal has failed to get through on numerous occasions.
"It's a dead duck, so we now need a fresh approach, it's more urgent than ever before.
"The British public has lost huge trust in politicians and that is why we need to deliver by 31 October."
Sky News is reporting that 30 current and former Labour employees are willing to help the Equalities and Human Rights Commission with its investigation into antisemitism in the party...
Asked for Theresa May’s response to the sentencing of Tommy Robinson for contempt of court, a Downing Street spokeswoman said:
“As the attorney general set out following the decision last week, posting material online that breaches reporting restrictions or risks prejudicing legal proceedings is a very serious matter.
“This is reflected in the court’s decision today.”
