London’s orbital motorway, the busiest in the UK, was closed over weekend between Junctions 9 and 10 for maintenance.
National Highways said it made “good progress” on installing a new gantry and a new gyratory bridge on a section of the motorway.
Diversion routes tool cars on a 19-mile journey on A roads, crossing from Surrey into London’s Ulez area, though National Highways has assured drivers “no enforcement action will be taken” against those who follow official routes.
‘Avoid the closure'
National Highways previously urged drivers to only travel the route if necessary, to avoid the closure and to complete their journeys in other ways if possible.
The M25 closure is the second of five planned weekend closures which come as part of a £317 million project to improve junction 10.
Slow moving traffic between junctions 9 and 10 as they reopen
There was slow moving traffic on parts of the M25 in Surrey on Monday morning as a section of the motorway closed over the weekend for maintenance reopened.
Slow moving traffic was reported between junctions 9 and 10, closed over the weekend, and on the A243 and A3 - near both junctions.
Maintenance work completed ahead of schedule
National Highways said the maintenance work between junctions 9 and 10 was completed ahead of schedule as it confirm the road had reopened.
“We are pleased to confirm the planned works on the #M25 in Surrey between J9 #Leatherhead and J10 #Wisley have been completed ahead of schedule,” it said in a statement on X.
“The road is now fully open in both directions.
“Traffic is flowing well in both directions. Thanks for your patience.”

Drone footage has captured the sheer scale of this weekend’s M25 closure as new bridge beams are installed. The motorway – which is Britain’s busiest – will be closed in both directions between junctions 9 and 10 in Surrey from 9pm on Friday (10 May) until 6am on Monday (13 May) while concrete beams for a new bridge are installed. Traffic still slow moving near junctions 9 and 10
Traffic continues to be slow moving on parts of the M25 in Surrey between junctions 9 and 10.
It was slowest one side of the motorway near Downside (Junction 9) and on one side near West Byfleet/Byfleet (Junction 10), according to Google traffic.
The section of the motorway closed between the two junctions has reopened following a closure for maintenance work.

Traffic appears to be building on the A243 near junction 9.
Google’s traffic map says there is slow moving traffic on the road between Leatherhead and Chessington, Surrey.

Tailbacks grow past Junction 10
Tailbacks on Junction 10 of the M25 (West Byfleet/Byfleet) appear to have grown all the way up to Junction 12 (Chertsey/Lyne).
Junction 12 connects the M25 to the M3, which connects London to the south.
Traffic was also building on the northbound lane of the A3 near Wisley.
