The former girlfriend of convicted paedophile and former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has been cleared of possessing indecent images of children.

Following 14 hours of deliberation, the jury at Cardiff Crown Court cleared Joanne Mjadzelics, 39, from Doncaster, of four counts of possessing indecent images of a child, one of inciting Watkins to send her illegal photographs and two of sending pictures to Watkins.

Prosecutors alleged that Mjadzelics, a former sex worker and special constable, was obsessed with Watkins and and would do anything to satiate his depraved desires.

But Mjadzelics, a former prostitute, denied the seven charges, and said she had encouraged Watkins to send her images of child abuse in order to expose his criminality.

The court heard that Mjadzelics spent three years attempting to bring Watkins to justice.

Watkins has since been convicted for a string of sexual offences, including attempting to rape a fan’s baby. He is currently serving a 35-year jail sentence for child sex offences.

Two female accomplices were also given lengthy prison terms as well.

Mjadzelics said she was willing to go to extraordinary lengths to see the singer prosecuted, after she said her complaints about him were not taken seriously by police.

As part of her bid to ensure Watkins was convicted, Mjadzelics continued to sleep with the singer, and risked jail by asking him to send her indecent images of children and have online sex conversations about abusing children.

The 39-year-old mother-of-one insisted the lurid chats as well as her apology to Watkins for threatening to report him were all an act to collect evidence.

Mjadzelics wept after being told by Judge Eleri Rees she was free to go.
