From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A man and a woman scaled a fence and broke into her Los Angeles home while no one was in, stealing her Maserati Quattroporte car and an unspecified amount of jewellery.
The burglary was reported to police on Friday, after Cyrus’ assistant came home and noticed that some of the singer’s possessions weren’t in their usual place. Police are still searching for the thieves.
In November 2013, her jewellery and a Chanel handbag were taken from the same San Fernando Valley property.
Last month, the singer was granted a temporary restraining order against an Arizona man who was recently detained by the police while trying to meet the 21-year-old. Devon Meeks, 24 – who believes Cyrus is trying to communicate with him through her music – is currently in a psychiatric hospital.
It’s not been an easy year for the pop star. In April, her beloved dog Floyd died. She dramatically paid tribute to the animal on stage when she cried and sang their favourite song – Fleetwood Mac’s "Landslide".
She was also hospitalised for an allergic reaction to antibiotics, forcing her to postpone her Bangerz tour.
