Jim Carrey has said he was "shocked" to learn that his on-ff girlfriend, Cathriona White, was found dead in her home on Monday night.

Calling the 30-year-old his "sweet Cathriona," Mr Carrey said in a statement to ET that was was "deeply saddened."

"She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled," the 53-year-old actor said in a statement.

"My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her."

TMZ reported that Ms White had killed herself, apparently days after they had split up again. Their off-and-on relationship had started in 2012.
