This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Caitlyn Jenner has shared an inspiring new photo of herself surrounded by five fellow transgender women to encourage others to share their experiences.

The Olympic athlete turned reality TV star, formerly known as Bruce, received a flood of support after revealing her new identity and look on the cover of Vanity Fair last week.

On Saturday, Jenner tweeted a picture of her friends with their backs to the camera and their arms around one another standing next to a stunning swimming pool and looking towards a mountain range.

The identities of Jenner's friends have been kept private but she has previously cited Laverne Cox, Geena Rocero, Carmen Carrera and Janet Mock as her transgender"pioneers".

The 65-year-old's life is being made into an eight-part E! docuseries called I Am Cait which premieres in the US on 26 July. The moving first promo clip for the show saw Jenner proclaim herself "the new normal" and apply make-up as she discussed how many people "go through life and never deal with their own issues".

Jenner broke none other than US President Barack Obama's record for the fastest-growing Twitter account when she launched a new profile for Caitlyn and racked up more than a million followers in just four hours.
