Harry and Meghan: What we know about brand Sussex Royal

The Duchess of Sussex has made her second public appearance since she and the Duke of Sussex announced their decision to “step back” from their royal roles.

On Tuesday, Meghan was pictured in Vancouver visiting the Justice for Girls group, which advocates for social justice for young women, focusing on issues such as violence, poverty and racism.

The organisation tweeted two photographs from the occasion, showing the 38-year-old drinking hot beverages with the group’s young members.

During the meeting, Meghan is said to have spoken about climate change and empowering young women.

“Yesterday, The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle visited to discuss climate justice for girls and the rights of Indigenous peoples,” Justice for Girls’ tweet read.

“Was great to talk about the importance of a holistic approach to social justice, and the power of young women’s leadership.”

On the Justice for Girls’ website, it describes its aims as using knowledge of institutions, such as the criminal justice and child welfare systems, “to assist young women in their daily struggles with violence, poverty and racism”.

The website continues: “Justice for Girls believes in young women’s leadership and pushes for young women to be at the forefront of designing law, policy, and programmes that affect their lives.”

The photographs of Meghan at the charity come after it was revealed she had paid a visit to another women’s organisation the same day.

The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, which provides a “safe space for women and children” in the area, shared a photograph on Facebook taken during Meghan’s visit.

“Look who we had tea with today! The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, visited us today to discuss issues affecting women in the community,” the organisation stated in the caption.

Meghan’s public appearances in Canada come after the Queen was joined at her Sandringham estate by the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex to discuss how Meghan and Prince Harry will “transition” into their new “progressive” royal roles.

Following their meeting, Buckingham Palace released a statement on behalf of the Queen, which read: “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.”
